I am not impressed with it either. I topworked it two years ago and my graft did great the first year and died this year.

Bought 3 on B118. Wanted a decent tryout for b118. Tried grafting (3) b118 onto kerr last year, one failed and the other died, leaving 1 to try on low pH sandy soil.

Would prefer another tree, but was only zone 3 option where I have an existing order of rootstocks.

Franklin Cider still holding a few today. S Michigan. I haven't been terribly fond of this tree, but it's starting to show some merit.View attachment 85852
That's about how our Franklin cider tree looks. Couple more years, it may be a big winner - your and ours.

Christmas type pictures for Thanksgiving!

About 7 inches of wet snow has settled in with wind. Those of you east of me will be getting it next.

I wonder if deer will dig through the snow for drops from before the snowfall. My home orchard is cleaned up. Tracks overnight were focused on the corn plot.

Muzzleloader season opens Saturday and sooner or later I will check the apples and corn outback.

Awesome little building. Great homestead you made over the years.

beautiful pics, Bur! They look like Christmas card covers. If those pics were on Christmas cards - I'd buy them. Much better than some of the screwy designs on so many of them. The one with the stone building is worthy of a magazine cover.

The original Courthouse Crab is dropping but holding some fruit. The closeup pictures show how it is a rootstock as compared to the flowering crab that it started as.

My CC at home had just a few apples this fall. First crop.

^ ^ ^ ^ Nice to see critters coming around to what you've planted for them, Bur. Wildlife sightings in the winter are good for any of us, IMO.

How much snow did you get? Lake effect snows clobbering states east of the lakes (downwind). NW Pa. off Lake Erie got 20"+.

We had about 7 inches with wind . I have been driving around our section morning and night and there are very few tracks in or out. Drifts might be restricting movement.

The snow has settled some. Muzzleloader season opens today and I am headed out this afternoon if the wind is right.

Deer moved from corn to apples and then to alfalfa tonight. I did not wish to shoot any I saw.
I didn't feel like travrling to the farmland I hunt, been too windy. Backyard plot has nothing but freezer queens past few days. Got another wierd buck coming around at night. Bigger 6 point on one sde, other side is either broken or did not develop much more than a inch or two spike. Same side as last years oddball. He was a 6 point with a 4 or 5 inch spike on right side. Maybe same deer. A few nice 8s and a 10, but all middle of the night.

Had EHD here in 2021 or 2022. Used to see a dozen plus deer every morning down my road 545am or so. Used to be one or two once or twice a week. Its a regular 4 or 5 now. Could use a few more does around here.
