When we moved here, almost 40 years ago, there was a planted apple tree that died back. I left the rootstock grow back but didn’t know how to protect it from sunscauld. So it died back and the next time it grew back, I shaded the trunk.
That’s Big Dog. I have found it as a rootstock under some other trees planted on public ground ( a bike trail) in about the same time period.
This is a red leafed seedling from a bag of Crabby Crisp apples I bought at a central Minnesota orchard. The year on the tag indicates I bought the bag of apples in 2018. Seeded that fall and I remember in the spring selecting out the red stemmed/ red leafed varieties. I need to find where this tree was planted as the apple pictured are on scion tacked on a wild crab.
Currently this fruit is slightly smaller than B118 fruit.
This bag of apples was purchased from the guy who developed KinderKrisp.
