When we moved here, almost 40 years ago, there was a planted apple tree that died back. I left the rootstock grow back but didn’t know how to protect it from sunscauld. So it died back and the next time it grew back, I shaded the trunk.

That’s Big Dog. I have found it as a rootstock under some other trees planted on public ground ( a bike trail) in about the same time period.

This is a red leafed seedling from a bag of Crabby Crisp apples I bought at a central Minnesota orchard. The year on the tag indicates I bought the bag of apples in 2018. Seeded that fall and I remember in the spring selecting out the red stemmed/ red leafed varieties. I need to find where this tree was planted as the apple pictured are on scion tacked on a wild crab.

Currently this fruit is slightly smaller than B118 fruit.

This bag of apples was purchased from the guy who developed KinderKrisp.

^ ^ ^ ^ Nice size for deer to chomp on. Have you tasted them yet?

I don’t think any apples are ready to harvest here, but Norland should be getting very close. I only see one cluster of apples on my Notland this year.

My home orchard is on a gentle south slope and had a bumper crop last year. Many trees are resting and I think 90 degree days this spring then frost took out many flowers.

Outback is a gentle north slope and trees are slower to wake up in the spring. Apple crop is decent out there but most varieties are deer crabs. This seedling is tacked on a wild crab in the Outback.

I had a message that the only red apple he had was Pink Pearl. The orchard is on the edge of a small town where Red Splendor is in the yards. I suspect Red Splendor in the background.

We freeze it.
