CPAP machines

no prescription required. It's pretty comfy..

I needed one to order from cpap.com. That was something I needed to know about amazon. I might try one.

That’s good to know about amazon, the only way I’ve been able to order before was to order all the parts separately to make a complete headgear because I everywhere I checked required a prescription.

Another CPAP user and believer in the P10 mask here. I also considered myself a mouth breather and tried a "full face" (not the Total Face shown above). Struggled with leaks until I bought a P10 on my own. TRY ONE - even if you think you can't breathe through your nose - it seems to inflate the passages after a few minutes and lets air through. You will need to train yourself to keep your mouth shut. If you still cant breathe, consider a turbinate reduction . It does not fix sleep apnea but will allow you to breathe through your nose.

Another big plus for CPAP for me was from the very first night I no longer had to get up to pee at night. Before, the stress of struggling to breathe keeps the kidneys/bladder active and i would have to get up three times a night. Not at all now.

I hear you on getting up to pee, I thought I was going to pee the bed a few times, looking back I would say it was after I had quit breathing for way to long and my muscles started to relax. I haven’t had that feeling since my cpap. And hardly ever have to get up.

Somehow the pressure on mine goes up and down as needed. It always starts at the pressure it was on when I shut it off but I can dial that back and it ramps back up on its own as needed. I know it's in the sweet spot when I wake up and have to pull it off to see if it's even working.

Is a prescription required for ordering supplies on Amazon? Is this the correct item I should buy if I want to give the P10 you guys are raving about a try?

That's the one I use. No prescription needed for anything but a machine. I've bought masks, replacement tubes and filters with no script.

pee factor.. never considered it. wow brilliant...

Sleep apnea will kill you, no iff's and or buts!

I fell asleep without my machine the other night and woke up in the morning feeling like I had been hit by a freight train.

I am just astounded. Considering the pool size of the members on this forum, it is amazing that such a high percentage use a CPAP. I have been after my Dr. for a long time because of my sleep patterns. I never seem to dream and I feel like I wake up 15 times a night. I have COPD and the Dr. just set me up with supplemental O2 for might time use. It helped for the first couple weeks and now it seems to bother me and I can't get a good nights sleep. They tried a sleep study once but it didn't go well. I just laid there for 6 hours and never fell asleep. So they put me on an at home program for 3 days. My O2 level at night would drop below 80%, thus the O2 machine. My wife had a CPAP for about 3 years. She use it every night. On a weekend trip, it quit working. She found that she slept extremely well so she hasn't used it since. I have an appointment with the Dr. in a week so I might just ask about a CPAP. Thanks for all the info.

Jack, you sound like me. For one year my wife told me I would stop breathing when I would sleep and snore alot. The next year I slept in the spare bedroom but I'm sure it was the same. For those two years I don't recall ever having a dream and felt like I woke up a thousand times a night. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I had to stay busy to stay away. If I sat down I would fall asleep. I finally went in for a sleep test and couldn't fall asleep for a long time and then it was a light sleep when I was asleep.

It came back that I had sleep apnea but it wasn't too bad and the insurance company thought it was not enough to cover the cpap services. Six months later I still was not sleeping any better. I went to a respiratory office and rented a cpap machine for a month. Cost 200 bucks but after the first night I knew I was going to get one, no matter the cost. I actually had dreams and deep, deep sleep. I felt rested the whole day and the next night was exactly the same and has been since.

After the month was over I ended up buying a used resmed automatic(sets pressure automatically) machine(lady at the office said they used it for demos at seminars) and new mask and haven't looked back since. The used one was 700.00. I saw a couple different brands on amazon cheaper, one of which was the unit I have. One can buy every component of the cpap process via amazon or online somewhere.

I trully believe it added years and quality of years to my life, not to mention I'm not as owly as I once was due to lack of sleep. My wife is very impressed with the new/old me.

My insurance would not cover my first CPAP machine. This was 35 years ago when there were not a lot of choices of machines. I bought one myself and it was one of the best things I ever did health wise. I have used a CPAP machine every time I nap or sleep since then. My latest machine has the heated tube which I really like. I advise everyone with a machine to see if you can use a heated tube with your machine. I am on my third machine now and insurance covers the machine and accessories. When the heater for the water reservoir quit working on my last machine, my insurance determined it was cheaper to buy me a new machine than send the old one in for repair. I even bought a used one and keep it at my hunting mobile home just in case I ever have to make an unscheduled overnight stay. It has come into play a few times when it was just too late or I was too tired to make the 1 1/2 hour drive home. Otherwise when I plan on staying overnight for work or hunting on my land, the CPAP is the first thing packed for the trip.

Well, I just ordered another mask.... I have tried everything I can find and still hate them all.

I'm going to try the "go big or go home" version this time:

No idea if it will work, but it never hurts to try!

I have had big masks like that and didn’t like them. They would leak and make noise all night. Sounded like my face was farting, and would wake me up and I would have to adjust it to get back to sleep. I hope yours works for you.

I hate the damn thing....but I wouldn't go to sleep without it! At first I though it would ruin my sex life, but after a moment of thought I realized I didn't have a sex life!

Play golf? I keep trying to find the right club and putter for me. Same with a CPAP mask. If at first you don't succeed, buy a bunch more....and don't let insurance stop you. So many suppliers ASSUME you won't want to pay out of pocket, but if you are doing habitat management drizzling money all over the place in search of a eureka moment is nothing new!

That's funny! But also very true. :)

I am heavily dependent on my cpap. Wouldn't try to sleep without it. I didn't know I had apnea before (real bad like 100/hour) but now if I fall asleep without it I'll wake up in a full panic. My pressure is very high, 20 on inhale and 16 on exhale. Was hard to find a mask that sealed well.

Pro Tip: Sleep studies are a rip an unnecessary. Most new machines have an autotitrate setting its like having a sleep study every night. You can easily get the "Technician code" by searching unlock and the name of your machine. Supposed to be only for doctors. If you gain or lose weight your prescription might change. Most machine will tell you your AHI or index which should be under 5. If your creeps up, increase your pressure a cm or 2 and or switch to auto titrate and watch it go to near zero.
