Interesting read.

I had considered heart rot as detrimental and always wondered if the taproot gets it and if it hurts the tree in the taproot. Some of my further thoughts were if there is a difference in heart rot of roots between antanovka and more fibrous roots like dolgo.

I still don’t know, but that was a good read.

I like most of what Eliza writes.
I do find it interesting that most of the ancient apple trees we still have are those on their own roots. The pictures of old trees that Fedco has of old trees makes you wonder how they're still alive. Maybe there is something to those old trees fertilizing themselves.
