Baiting, I know this has been discussed and discussed this is just my rant....LOL

Obviously
Maybe I can help you out.

I believe that the research supports me in saying that as corn kernels per area increases, so does pathogen concentration. Maybe draw me a picture and I’ll pick 1 or 2.

You do realize this stuff is everywhere right? Deer on a lip high food plot are exposed. Deer at a muddy waterhole are exposed. Not sure how to draw a clearer picture for you.

If I could outlaw small muddy water holes, I would do that too.

ETA: what’s your point? That’s the purported spreader of EHD. Because water holes exist in droughts, feeders are g2g?

You think baiting or feeding can be controlled Mr. Watson?
I don’t know if that’s meant as another insult, but in my lifetime it was controlled!

And arguably the most important enforcer was public opinion from the hunters on the fence… like you? But those folks seem to have recently misplaced their peanuts. That’s why I’m so outspoken about this here.

What’s your point?
Point about what? You started the insults with the whole peanuts deal. I thought we were having a friendly debate, and you had to go and take it personal.

So you try to broadcast my name in retaliation?

You think you’re doxxing me in revenge.?

It's really too late for me to get dragged back into this silly argument but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Comparing a feeder to a food plot is, for lack of a better word, ignorant. I could be proven wrong if you have a feeder that randomly slings feed over a 5-acre area. If you have a feeder like that, I stand corrected.

Likewise, comparing a feeder to an oak tree or a persimmon tree is, for the lack of a better word, ignorant. That is unless you have some magical feed tree that drops continuously for months on end and draws in countless forms of wildlife on a daily and an unnatural basis. If you have trees like that, please let me know about them.

And finally, the saddest support for baiting is the "if I don't bait, my neighbors will kill all of the deer" guy. I'd hate to be that guy, living life with a defeatist attitude. Just sad.

The real loser in all of this is the wildlife. But hey, we have a history of extricating all forms of wildlife from the planet, why stop now.

A 150lb field dressed buck. If start making ground meat and add20% fat. If making sausages add 50% pork. Might not have been straight 52 weeks but not eating venison every meal ever again.

You can probably donate meat to a food bank. I shot 5 one year, and we ended up donating about 30 lbs, mostly roasts. We also increased out venison cookbook by about 50% that year.

Now I give ground meat to guys wanting it.

Now moderators are changing my posts?

It's becoming obvious some people have never had to scout and hunt deer coming to natural food sources. If you had, you would have found areas beneath feed trees torn up down to the dirt with piles of feces around. Areas the same size as what a spin feeder flings feed.

On the other end of the spectrum, it's obvious not many have hunted at feeder sites. You would know deer can routinely be conditioned to avoid these areas duringthe day. Studies have shown that.

Biologists routinely use corn to bait deer. It's even a standard practice by them in many, many areas. It's documented by science.

The food plot industry would not be as big as it is if people weren't using them to bait deer into an area to be shot. You wouldn't be planting them if it didn't bait deer in to your property.

You, or your farmer, plants what amounts to food plots on your place. Essentially due to its lack of desired outcome you are now going all in on bait. Why is that? Cause you enjoy staring at a pile of corn on the ground?
Admittedly I actually care less about the environmental effects, because like you, I think other things congregate deer as well. I care more about the sporting aspect. If we lose that, this whole endeavor becomes gross. Personally, and once again this is mostly all personal, I would applaud the guy who whacks a spike fair chase over the guy who shoots a booner with its head in a giant steel drum.

From a social perspective I find it funny that guys never post pics of a kill or include in their story the bait pile. I firmly believe 95% or ky hunts over bait. I bet upwards of 80% plus bucks in ky are killed over bait, yet it’s conveniently omitted when talking about the kill. Almost seems a bit of underlying admission it cheapens the accomplishment. At least that’s my interpretation.

It's all over social media. Youtube videos on it. Ads for buck bourbon or whatever is the latest craze. Even Lee Lakosky has live videos of deer at his place coming in to tons of bait/feed. Bill Winke has videos with him pouring bait

And none ever post a grip and grin next to the steel drum
Edit- some may post a pic with a bag if they are getting paid. But they are shameless whores so their intentions are crystal clear.

What about the guys posting a pic with deer garden seed?

Well to clarify posting a pic with any product is lame as can be. But if they actually planted a plot and killed the deer, kudos. That plot had lasting benefits to deer and other species and isnt the immediate, targeted draw of a bait pile.
Like you said, there’s a reason biologists trap and dart species over a bait pile and not a food plot. Targeted concentration for easy results.

A food plot is just a way to have food out there for an extended period of time to where they don't have to keep going back out to place food or the expense. Then, many provide feed in feeders for an extended amount of time to supplement when the food plots may not be as attractive or as nutritious.
