Or paypal. :)

I had that happen in my old house. The HVAC guy told me it's from laundry detergent in the air and the residue screws with the rod. I am not sure if he was full of BS though!
He was full of $hit.

MBC Glad I could help.

thats why this forum kicks serious ass....good shit. the people on this forum never cease to amaze me! imagine if we all lived in close enough proximity to get together often....and manage a big ass block of land!

I have had to do that at least once if not twice a season for the last few years and my furnace is under 15 yrs old. Luckily one of the HVAC guys showed me the solution after the he charged me $100 the first time he visited! We are on natural gas and I change my air filter regularly not sure why it happens as frequently as it does.
Even though you can't see it soot builds up on the flame rod. I pull mine every fall and clean it.

Phil - either we would have so much potential or we would kill each other!!!!

so true! but i think enough of us would get along there would be no hard feelings when NoFo and his clan kill all the booners we all have been after each year...lol! or there would be booners behind every tree and it wouldnt matter!

I could get the ball rolling with this! their is 301 acres for sale that borders my hole back side. Grounds reasonable in my area and lots of potential in the deer herd! Come on south boys:) We would share a border with a fella that owns over 700 acres that allows no hunting. Just one peice of ground between us an a 8000 acre conservation area. I saw a total of 6 trucks their on opening rifle! Imagine what we could accomplish all helping each other out!

As my grandfather used to say, "Too many cheifs, not enough indians".

With MBC's record I would love to see the look on my wifes face when I tell her that is our new neighbor!!!!

I'd love to had MBC as a neighbor. There would be no question as to his intentions or wondering what he meant when he say's something. And maybe I can add too or change his pro staff to include Jack & Mount Royal. Also get him back on 2 wheels.

What is the life expectancy of a furnace? Ours is over 20 years as well. ..we had a part replaced last year ...The igniter I think...anyways they said parts are starting to get hard to find....

We need to replace the central air and I was thinking we should replace the furnace at the same time.

Life expectancy is about 15-20 years. Look around the burners where the flame shoots in, if you see rust I would change it out sooner than later. You can't have cracks in the heat exchanger or you will have problems. Flame rods and igniters are small items that can fail from 6 months to 10 years. Most parts for furnaces are usually pretty universal.
The best preventative maintenance you can do is clean the burners, igniter and flame rod and check the flue gases for CO. That will tell you where you are at with fuel burning equipment.

I am lucky... I have geothermal pump and dump......

What a pile of crap. I wish i had a furnace and central air to maintain....

Not saying he would be a bad neighbor, not at all. MO, based on his prior tag line, just may seem a little scary on paper. In fact so scary he reads something like he is straight out of CONGRESS-hahaha!!!! just having a little fun MO! Seriously, MO......put the gun down MO......it's a joke MO.........

Glad to hear it's back working and the Barracuda is warm. Very common problem with soot getting on that rod. Seems like a better solution could have been made by now. Something to know about for many folks with a gas furnace. It WILL happen at the worst time.

Good description and advice Tool'n. You the man. ;)
