I have updated with the non-mouse trap version of the battery recharge.

I have done this with 2 12v batteries wired in series to repair some 18v DeWalt batteries. I just tapped them a few times with 24 volts and they were able to receive a charge afterwards.

I've done this with several batteries over the past few years on products from Greenworks (the pole saw) and DeWalt (lots of stuff). This works frequently, and once "fix" the batteries seem to charge normally.
