Standing dead oak trees - worth it for firewood?

Had a friend die from trimming a tree. Wasn't some old fart, guy was in his 30's. Limb fell out and hit him in the head. Left a beautiful wife and a couple of young kids heartbroken. Please be careful!

I only put my saw into oak if I have to. Use hedge to heat with if I have a choice. I may be somewhat spoiled though with a huge supply of hedge to cut.

Great heating value. But like you were told, it could be dangerous. With an oak that size probably won't be much vibration or movement till it starts to go. But I responded to a call last year of a widow maker that had a guy pinned. 52 years old and had cut trees all his life, but died that day.
