Dead Osage Blowing Over

I have been ringing and spraying hedge for 17 years now. I have some real big trees that grew in the relative open in a walnut bottom that I killed 10 years ago. The area gets wet and doesn't drain real well. We had some good wind this fall and 3 of my trees pulled out at the root ball and blew over. These suckers are terribly top heavy and their tops just don't rot out. But I have been doing this for years and never had them blow over after being dead like this. It's a problem for me because they of course blew over on trees I had planted 10 years ago and crushed them. I am used to Osage standing dead forever but had 3 fail all at once this year. That has me rethinking how I plant trees around them when I kill them. Has anyone else had hedge fall over like this years after killing it?

Nope, they stay up until I cut them into firewood.
