Well this Saturday our gun opener starts. Weather looks to be 38 F in our area on Saturday and low winds which will be a welcome change.

I will be in my stand and my nephew & cousin will be in theirs also at around 6 am.

Good luck to everyone, be safe, and update us on your success and enjoy the hunt!

IL opened today. Sitting in a tree now. Had the doe we call orphan Annie walk by and hang out at 630 for about 20 min

NY Gun opens tomorrow as well. It's been really windy for 2 days straight but for those of us who think that matters (me included) I had a nice 10pt in my backyard this morning. Didn't even really know we have deer in my neighborhood. So I'll assume the wind means nothing to them and that they are out there chasing/seeking just based on time of year. I hope to get one more bow hunt in this evening. Good luck everyone! Shoot straight!

Yep seasonal temps and CALM winds. Should be a good opener for us. Still debating with myself if I should remain selective or if I should put one on the board opening morning.

I will be out, with the hopes 1 of the 2 decent bucks decide to be on my land at 630 tomorrow morning. Doubt it, but there are several old does that should be thinned out anyhow.

Deer meat is deer meat.
Once you have one in the freezer it's a lot easier to be selective.

Finished sighting in the new rifle this afternoon, Savage 110 Scout in 308. Tons of others doing the same judging from the amount of shooting I heard. My brother-in-law says license sales are up 10% this year.

I’m not in Wis. but I think this is the first time in my life I have not heard people sighting in their guns. Our season starts tomorrow also and it’s been quite. Maybe people are saving their ammo these days.

Hard to find a box of anything around here.
Went to multiple places and called a few with no luck.

Good luck to everyone going out tomorrow! Just got done getting last minute items ready. I get to hunt by myself tomorrow, the one " dad's day" of the year. Then I will take the boys with me alternating turns each day...in the past they have filled their tags during the youth hunt, but this year didnt pan out so I got little hitchhikers with me from Sunday on. ( it brings a smile to my face in all honesty ). Have fun and be safe everyone!!!!

my little hitchhiker will turn 22 in March. I literally laid off every stand for 3 weeks. He did everything wrong in “my” opinion and still managed to connect.

turned out great. I hope someday he will actually listen to me :emoji_wink:
Or maybe I should listen to him

Good luck guys. One more week of bow season here in Mass. From the sounds of the single random single shotgun blasts going off at the crack of dawn or just before dark the past few weeks, I'd hazard to say some have already opened their own personal firearms season...if you know what I mean? :emoji_thinking:

Good luck WI. State holiday up there ain't it? In my blind and can hear all the trucks driving in. Day 2 of IL gun and the deer are getting some warnings, if they're paying attention.

Hey guys, glad to see this thread had legs. I actually disconnected Friday from here and focused on the deer camp. This year was a rebuilding year as 2 of my prima-donna friends were not invited back to the camp. had my nephew who is 23 and my cousin who is my age come up to start to rebuild the deer camp.

Opening was at 6:25 am and all 3 of us were in our stands by 5;45 am ... a good start. We saw a ton of deer and no one took the big boy. They both took a doe Sunday morning as they both wanted venison. We drank beer, bourbon, and ate lots of food, and visited other friends deer camps at night to share stories and enjoy others success.

This felt like a good restart with friends who want the same thing as I do. I am trashed & tired tonight by being the camp bitch but it is a good feeling with friends who appreciate everything.

Hope everyone had a great opening weekend also!

Sounds like a great start to a fresh camp. We are adding someone next year and my boys are growing up quick so we have the groundwork in place to also rebuild in upcoming years. As for the hunting this season so far, we've yet to even see a deer.

I did this several years ago. It has made for a better hunting/in camp experience. But I still have some family and friends that are sore over it.

Our gun season is long over in MN
It would be nice if it started right now.

PA comes in this coming Saturday 11/28 followed by the first ever Sunday hunting opportunity in gun season. There were three Sundays open for hunting this year. One in archery, one in bear, and the final in gun season.

I cleaned house on our deer camp about 5 years ago. We are down to just myself and my son. But they aren’t missing out on much. Only 1 deer seen, and it is hanging. Pretty quiet up my way, other then the Sunday mid day, if it moved or not we are shooting our guns before we go back to the cities crowd. But the deer usually will start moving again Tuesday -Wednesday. The DNR up my way think there is too many deer, and not enough bear, and wolves. They obviously don’t go in the woods much.
