Willows

A streamside willow thicket would be excellent deer and pheasant cover. I have a creek bottom area that I'd love to have taken over by willows.

Hybrid willows grow tall and aren't great for wildlife, but the shorter shrub type willows are excellent wildlife cover. I planted and caged some near a pond I dug out with the goal of establishing a willow thicket there as well.
I saw bebbs willow recommended by the guy with the Purpose Filled Habitat channel, they are a little harder to find it seems.

Yea there's a creek that winds thru the thicket at the farm. I don't want em everywhere but there are some spots that need thickened up

Try red osier dogwoods. They don't get tall and grow like a bushy willow. "Osier" actually means willow.

With mine. I bend the outer stems down to the ground, and they root and help spread the shrub out to become a thicket.
