that does look like it could be persimmon......... sprayed 3 acres with cleth yesterday, took some measurements so I can re build my disc. need axles, bearings, and nothed discs again, might as well start fresh. I need to get on the phone with agri supply so I can make sure I get the right stuff. 34 inch axles, 18 inch discs, thicker the better, flanged bearings for the 1 inch axles. end washer and nuts........... fun stuff.

For your 18" discs, best thickness I could find was 3.5mm while standard was 3mm for axles 1" or smaller

Agri supply has parts that they list in several ways and cheaper ones are China sourced while more expensive are from Brazil for their 18" ones. Believe the notched Brazil made ones are between $18 - $19 ea. Shipping is pricey but you have to remember a single blade is like 10 lbs. It adds up quick.

shipping for the whole lot was 110 bucks, ouch. got the parts yesterday, grunted through it today and got er done. all new notched disc, nex bearings, new axles and end nuts. bear getting one end apart, second side not as bad. put it to use and it works great again, that is until I tried to disc down my 5 foot winter rye. what a tangled mess.

Pulled the mini excavator from work down to the farm for the weekend (hour drive so not terrible). Was planning to clean up an old sod waterway that was reverting back to a muck swamp grass, as well as clear a small portion of old pasture that had been untouched for 20-22 years. Decided to start on the waterway rehab first. Got 20 minutes into it before finding a seemingly bottomless muck hole


That sidetracked me for about 90 minutes to get out of that jam and move on to the food plot clearing. Thankfully that went much more smoothly. Didn’t get a before pic.

Figure to give it a few weeks to see if anything germinates (soil is a fine powder with it so dry so doubtful anything pops until we get some rain), hit it with gly and be set to put some brassicas in by mid August. And pray for rain. Dry as a bone around here in NE Ohio, minus the 15’ wide strip I was trying to clean up. Haha

when did you put the rye in that it got so tall? im not planting mine until labor dayish so i dont think it will grow that tall but good to know it might

the rye was cast into standing beans last fall.
I worked the dirt again, 3 big plots got hit with the disc, then seeded. One I rolled down the rye in and hand cast beans into again, funniest coating on the seed, a pink pearlescent coclor. the other 2 got crimson clover, sweeds, tillage raddish, and ptt. On close inspection, I saw that my faba bean try is a 99.99% failure, I found 2 beans about 5 inches tall that look like the were eaten, that is another acre that needs a re do. I need to mow a clover plot with mugwort in it, its bad, may take 2 hours to mow. another clovr plot still has standing rye and needs a cut as well. My main clover plot needs a chop..... I might need to grab another set of blades so I can swap mid day next time out. in all I am way behind.

yes rain! had a gully washer roll through last night, and todays isaias, (sp) is adding moisture at a steady rate, not near as hevy which is good. I have at least one plot that has me at wits end, clover was doing great, but mugwort has taken hold again. trouble is gly strong enough to take it out, is likely to be strong enough to take out the clover as well. is 24d-B strong enough for mugwort? I have that on hand, and would love to go in and spry till its dead, but don't want to wste the good stuff is it isn't going to work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mugwort

You out early so down to the property I went. Gave three clover plots a haircut. One white, two medium red. I was very happy to see the condition they were in when I got there, not a lot of weeds but a ton of deer sign from nibbled leaves and lots of Clover that had already been through dear scattered everywhere. The white plot was seated last spring, the other two medium red plots were seated this spring

My Dolmar 5105 started mysteriously overheating and threw the chain twice last week, so it's been retired and a new Stihl MS261 has been added to the family. I will put the first tank of gas through it today. The brassica plots that I planted last weekend have started to emerge, and I'm seeing lots of bachelor groups on the cell cameras - but I need to visit in person to update their firmware so I can request full HD shots. And the new tower blind is finally finished, so I need to begin to throw up some screen. Every week it's something new!

This one really got away from me. The mugwort was about 4 almost 5 ft tall, what a nightmare. If anybody is looking for some serious biomass that part is great, stems up to 5/8 in diameter and slightly Woody. The Clover under this better appreciate that work.

woohoo, amazon delivered my new spark plugs for the snapper, and a 100 pack of AA energizers for the trail cams.......... they will be headed with me if I get down this weekend.

I'll be attacking another plot or two tomorrow, sharpened blades, got a spare set in truck, 3 gallons in the tractor, 5 gallon can full in the truck, and might have figure out the oil leak, I think the oil filter was loose. should have checked it long ago. I only checked today to try to id the filter for getting a replacement. ordering that next on the zon.

wow, what a horrid plot, I think I'll be happy if I end up with 35% clover that survived, I am ashamed that I let it get away from me this bad. took a before shot, too tired to take an ater shot. some of this was taller than me while sitting on the tractor....... saw turkeys, deer, snakes, hawks, buzzards, and a sweeeeeeeeeeet 8 on my out.

parked tractor on the street when I got home, hit it with some de greaser, and then the pressure washer. sprayed more de greaser and finished it off, man what grime stuck to the oil that was leaking. Good news is it looks like the major leak was from the loose oil filter! anyway, with all the grime off the engine should run cooler

At least you have green in yours. Went today to put up a few skirts on the stands and it's all dead to the sand. What little was alive the lay time I was there is dead now. And still no rain for another 10 days in the forecast. Wont bother with the rye, brassica, and clover until rain finally shows up.

yeah, no rain would be a nightmare. speaking of green, the clover plots that I mowed on or about the 7th look AMAZING, never had such a nice stand of clover, one of the three plots is as close to 100% clover as you can get, the other two aren't far behind but nothing a little cleth can't fix.

Every field that doesn't have irrigation around us is in bad shape. The bean fields are hurting badly. The corn across from my house is crunchy and it has irrigation. Been a tough August. Wishi would have gotten buckwheat in early but it just wasn't to be.

Back in the tractor saddle boyz! Sold my farm last year and bought a new one. Didn’t have time to get fall plots planted last year! Felt so good to get a big fall plot in today! Forgot how much I enjoyed it. Bought a commercial tower stand and setting it up Wed! My youngsters are gonna be spoiled this fall!
