That looks good. Glad I don't have corn this year. The beans are all twisted, can't imagine how bad corn would look.

At latest count I have 25 or 26 varieties of crabs/ apples bearing fruit this year. Those are named or I have given them names. There are other seedlings that are doing pretty well and are carrying fruit.

Here are some Grandma seedlings that my wife’s Grandmother gave us years ago.

In the far end of the mowed area is another string/cluster of apple trees tucked in between the swamp and the corn field.

Shooting lane for the deer stand.

I may try some rye/oats in here and hope herbicide carryover is not too great. Maybe will plant a rub tree.

Got the tree in place . Sprayed a strip with roundup. Now I need to see what the carryover is from the initial spraying.

That lone tree looks like buck bait! You will probably have to plant a new one every couple of years if it works to plan. In my area about any conifer under ten feet tall would be a buck rub magnet, I have a hell of a time trying to keep them from killing my road screen trees.

Your apples look great!

That tree is a box elder that I cut off and dug in with a post hole digger.

A few years ago I used a hybrid poplar cutting in the spring and it rooted, until they destroyed it.

And this one died back to snow level. It seems like it did the same thing 4 or 5 years ago.

Probably one of my seedlings.

Was that a question about the snow?

Snow protects from some wild temperature swings and might help reduce drying out.

Your place looks great and That box elder rubbing post looks like the perfect turd in a punch bowl.

Art, the amount of fruit you have just amazes me. If I have near the success with my apples and crabs I will be thrilled. Couple that with the corn and beans and you have a great selection of deer food. The rub post will be interesting. I have tried them and have had some minimal success, but I try to leave the leaves on if I can. I have had more success using a fresh cut piece of grape vine....the sap in it they like the taste of and then the deer take care of the rest. Or plant an expensive container tree you want to protect from the deer....they seem to find them and eat them to a stick and then rub whatever is left! I had them actually remove a cage from a chestnut and do that to me last year. I swore to shoot the SOB that did it, but he never showed up again!!!!

Invasive, non natives are moving in. I long for the good old days when they weren’t in this part of the state.
