Spreader for SxS?

Need a seed spreader for my ranger sxs. Small seed capable. Doesnt need to cost $1000 as it will be lightly used. Have two tractors but been too wet to get them in the fields this spring. Millet, clover, wheat planting. Receiver hitch mounted. Several to pick from - just want to hear of experience with a specific model.

I have this one. I mounted it to a 2x8 that’s wider than the bed on my side by side. Ratchet strap it down and go.
That lets it ride high and lets me broadcast above soybeans in the fall.

I’ve spread everything from clover to soybeans. It will hold a full bag of rye and really slings it out. With the spinner turned up it probably has a 30 to 40 foot spread path.

One side note. It will leak small clover seed around the seems between the hopper and the spinner.
Duct tape fixed it but I probably should have used silicone.

I dont see link to your seeder

I have the same Fimco as Bill. Have attached it to an old Kawasaki Prairie 300 ATV. Works well and it does through the seed in a wide range. Comes with a variable speed control for the spreader motor so you can control the spread distance.

Have spread WR, soybeans, milo, peas, etc. and also Urea prills. Does occasionally bind up on soybeans.

The only issue is the hand lever to open the seed gate. You cannot lock open so it will occasionally vibrate close. I use a bungee cord to hold it open.

Do you guys get decent distance when spreading oats? I've got a cheap moultrie which I love other than the 40 dollar annual motor replacement. I can get 30 feet wide with fertilizers but oats I'm lucky to get 10 feet wide.

Don't you guys hesitate to spread with a pricey sxs? Fertilizer is sp corrosive I just can't bring myself to spread with that. I picked up a 700 dollar rancher that permanently has the spreader and sprayer. I know tools are ment to be used, but some of these sXs machines hitting 30 grand i just can't see blasting it full of salt

I will not spread fertilizer with my ranger. I have a JD 790 that I use to spread seed and fertilizer - but it has been too wet this spring to get it out of the yard. I have almost stopped using fertilizer anyway.

Does the fimco have a way to turn on and off from the drivers seat of a side x side - or would you have to open the gate by hans and run around to the seat and take off?

you’ll get 30 foot wide it if they haven’t changed things. I know you don’t want to be in the path of rye coming out of it. It would sting.

I do but I think I wired the switch myself. The unit has a switch on it but I hooked up a cigarette lighter plug with an in line switch I can use from in the cab.
You always waste some seed and start heavy because you have to open the hopper before getting in the SXS.
I leave mine in gear so I can get going ASAP.

only Spread fertilizer Once in a while and wash the crap out of everything as soon as I can.

No, easy to do as it is a 2-wire. Move the control or put in a rocker switch.

They make this unit for spreading ice melt salt.

I spray mine down with water and they douse with WD40. It has sat outside on my ATV for 4 years ... no issues.

What is small seed, describe?

Clover, millet, brassicas

Have not done clover individually in it, but have spread clover in a mix with brassicas, millet, GHR, etc.

Another seeder that you may want to consider for small seed is the Herd Seeder. I do not own one, but have heard good comments about them especially for small seed.
