Pine Hill Farm

I've been flagging a bunch of small volunteer cedars in random spots around the property this winter. We've gotten some good rain last couple days, seems like a good time to pop them out and maybe throw them in buckets for a couple days. If all the frost is out of the ground, do you guys think I'm safe to start transplanting?

If you can get them out, put them in. Yoink doink same day and it’s done. Just make sure wherever you’re gonna put them is also thawed out.

Been a productive last few days! Had to bust this old rutted up ground. Plots just need another pass or two and the winding runs will be switch borders with native pockets. IMG_4020.jpg

Looks great man. Nicely done!

I know it looks far apart now but allow enough room for those trees to get big,I usually do at least 12ft apart if I want grass to grow but remember if you allow grass to grow then you run risk of fire and 2ft tall grass on fire will kill large cedars. I have also done them closer in rows or half circles for cold weather thermal protection. They will bed on south side of them anytime it gets cold on my place. It looks great

That stream pic in post #105 looks like a dandy for trapping coons, muskrats, and mink. Is that the limestoner??

It is a limestoner! Haha. Lots of coons, I haven't seen a mink but we did have a beaver last year and some muskrats. I know nothing about trapping but gonna have to learn if I want these turkeys to thrive.

Hopefully that farmer is paying close attention! My dad would probably come through and rip em all up on accident... 😂
We had the field surveyed to mark boundaries, then I had him chisel plow around our portion last fall. Now he's got it updated in his GPS guidance system.

planning to cage the pines?

Perfect! 👍

I always worry about the farmers herbicide knocking out whatever trees I just planted if I plant right on the line with row crop

I do too, I stepped back 30’. I’ll have a trail that runs the outer perimeter and trees 30’ inside of that. That way a little drift shouldn’t hurt anything.
