Not surprised even a little bit but pretty pissed

My wife had jury duty earlier this week. Anybody know if it's standard practice for the people asking potential jurors questions to see if you'll be on the jury and they use your name right there in front of the defendant? I certainly wouldn't think that they would give out the jurors names like that but we are in about the worst county in Minnesota so it wouldn't surprise me that the judge and lawyers don't know what the hell they are doing. I wasn't too happy to hear about it. First they force you to be on the jury and then they potentially put a bullseye on your back. I think it's absolute bull shit. Anyone been on jury duty?
I've been called to jury duty before here. They don't use people's names - just numbers assigned to everyone - and the accused isn't there when potential jurors are picked. Just the 2 opposing attorneys, and the pool of potential jurors. No ID possible. Why is this process not used everywhere? Seems like a no-brainer.

I think if you can show receipts proving you have a vacation booked that it should count as a legit absence. BS to me that you can't.
What If you own your own business? Who decides what my time is worth? I currently own my own business (partially retired) and would much rather spend my "free" time outside doing habitat work than listening to some bs ridiculous lawyer try to free up another punk and keep them them on the streets. I suppose I would want me or someone like me to be a Jurry member if I was falsely accused of a crime but how often does this really happen? Seriously? Mostly we have a group of George Soros DAs trying to keep dirtballs free and on the street and a bunch of normal people trying desperately to avoid wasting their time listening to them.

I never understand why people want to get out of jury duty so badly. To me, it would be like complaining about political leaders and never voting or complaining about traffic while sitting in it, not realizing they are literally traffic. It's a civic duty and part of the social contract. Be the change you want to see in the world.

I have been called 4 or 5 times and always dismissed. Always ticks me off because I think it would be interesting. One was a murder case where the dude killed his girlfriend and was smart enough to stuff her body in the dumpster for their own apartment. Dumb ass prosecutor dismissed me on that one and he had me at hello.. 🤣

A real rocket scientist, and a fine upstanding member of society.

That would be interesting, but to make jurors watch some looser masterbaiting who is already behind bars is unacseptable.

Has to show the video. It sucks but juries are really hard to convince these days. If you don’t show the video the jury will speculate about why it wasn’t shown and what it does or doesn’t show.

Courtrooms are a joke. A search for the truth my ass. Judges for the most part are a joke. Judges are so damn overboard on protecting the rights of the accused that they are tipping the balance. Of course people should get a fair trial but there is always half a book of information about the defendant that the jury never sees because it would “unfairly” prejudice the jury.

In my state we also have a serious lack of prosecutors who know what they are doing. It is a miserable job and to do it right you are going to work 10 hours in the office, go home and work until you go to bed you are going to work on weekends. The legislature has thrown up so many new responsibilities that really require that prosecutors offices be expanded so cases get the attention they need. Your good work is sometimes going to be a losing effort because of dipshit judges, one squirrel on the jury or the appellate court dreaming up reasons to let bad guys go so their name can be on a “landmark “ case.

Why would anyone want to do that.

I do own a small business and I'm supposed to call this sunday after 5:00pm to see if they settled or not. Honestly I don't know how they expect people to even care. Just my feelings about it. If it didn't directly pertain to my life I really don't care about which lawyer is a better actor. I question just how many people are actually qualified to even be on a jury and care about the "service" they are required to do which 90% of the time is more of a pain in the ass for most people. I would just appreciate if they didn't put a target on the backs of the citizens they are forcing to be there. Not a fan. Wife said she "searched" it and they do use peoples names except for a high profile case. If a drive by shooting isn't high profile enough to protect the jurors lives what is? Admittedly I'm living in a real shit hole of a county and it doesn't look like even the judge is qualified or doing right by the jurors. jmho

Last time called in in 2009 or 10. Told them I work nights and would fall asleep. Dismissed.

Way way overdue for jury duty. Went to new county in 2011 and came back in 2018. Might of dodged the clock done that way.
