The Sunwalker decking was 48" x 12". a little off squre by the time we dry fit everything on, but a little motivation from a push on the skid loader and things tightened right up.


If you look closely, you can see the walkway has a little bit of a bent country lane feel to it in that it bends a little bit. headed to the dock. But for free labor and 2 days of work, i'm very pleased.

The tall post was left in to have a rope swing or a zip line installed some day. Probably have to run a bucket truck out to get ourselves up there.

All told it was an exhausting 2 days of work, but it's a load off my mind that it's done.

Even had some extra time with the skid loader so we took the 1s and 2s that were delivered and made smallmouth spawning beds in and around a couple of the shallower rock piles and dug a water hole up in the middle of a crp field at the edge of what's gonna be a hidden micro plot to kill a giant buck tending a doe some day...

Glad it's done, but now I have to get my bucket truck up in the air soon before the pond fills and get the rope swing situated.

Calling for rain this week. I'm hoping by opening day of turkey season next year that the pond is full. The neighboring farmer thinks I'm dreaming. Guess we'll see.

Missed this thread for a few months and check back to see a pier built in a 3.5 ac pond. Wow you ohio guys don't screw around when it comes to pond building. That's going to be fun.

If you tie a rope swing to the top of a straight pole..and some kid is afraid to let go of the rope..won’t they return to the pole at high speed?

we're planning to put an arm and a mortice on it and get it away from the pole a bit.

It's probably pretty 1/2 baked of an idea, but that's why it's great... haha

Food Plot Planting Day

Did a test plot of 10 plants in a 7 acre field
3 turnips, 3 rapes, 4 kales

The wife, kids, and dogs showed up. Went swimming in the new pond mudhole, and 3 boys with fishing rods headed to the mini pond is a pretty rewarding sight.




Also, last time we "camped" in the cabin, my wife was walking into the basement and was greeted at the top step by a snake. We found a 20"+ skin in the basement. She wasn't a fan, and frankly neither was I. Called a couple places and the siding was beyond shot anyways, so as small as place is, he had leftover siding sitting at his shop. So they wrapped it and put new gutters and soffit on it. Looks sharp

Then decided to walk the place a little and snap some pictures of our habitat improvements or projects to log how they're coming.

Roy - I'm tempted to bring a load of pea gravel to that pond and release some crawfish out there.. Spread out that pea gravel in a section of bank, throw a few boulders out there and you have crawfish (and smallmouth!) heaven

i've got about 3 slinger trucks full of pea gravel in there already. thought was spawning for the Red ear sunfish, and I wanna add some crawfish. Don't know much about crawfish, but I'm all ears...

Live in pea gravel, mostly in the 0'-6' depth range typically, but they can be found out fairly deep.

A few scattered boulders and larger rock piles within the pea gravel give them escape cover, and something for larger fish to relate to, so win-win there. Also good spawning bottom for larger fish as you mentioned.

Piles of rocks, about basketball size, are ideal for crawfish and other prey species.

The plots are up. Oats look good and the brassicas are about 1.5" tall or so.

Forecast looks excellent for rain moving forward. Need to get some nitrogen on the brassicas,but it's headed the right direction. I'll try to upload some pictures later.

This is a little 1/3 acre plot in the middle of about 12 acres of what's gonna be switch and old field growth. I put a water hole and some Oats mixed w/ brassicas
There are some weeds in there too, but it's coming up nice

This is one of the bucks I get spurratic pictures of. My kids named him Loppy because one side of the rack is longer than the other.
