Canada clearweed in clover

Jaxon Holler

Yearling... With promise
Greetings all. I planted a 1/4 acre pumpkin patch for the second year. Last year the stinging nettle took over and picking pumpkins was miserable. This year I overseeded after the pumpkins came up with clover and chicory to hopefully suppress the nettle. Went and checked it out the other day and there’s a heavy flush of Canada clearweed. Anyone reason to worry about this? Not sure there’s anything I can spray that won’t also damage the clover and pumpkins. I am considering spot spraying where I can with Butyrac 200, hopefully avoiding the pumpkins. They haven’t started vining yet so if I do anything it should be sooner than later I suppose. Thanks!

Kinda confused with the comment about vining with clearweed. Stuff I have is just stalks like it's cousin stinging nettle.

Edit: Ah, realized vining is the pumpkins just getting going.

But only really see it in richer soil so you have that going for ya. It also likes shade and moist areas so with full sun expect something else would win eventually.

Deer seem to ignore it all summer and then browse the heck out of it early fall. Maybe after first light frosts?

It sticks to my wooded areas and not a problem in the full sun food plots. But if it did would not worry about it too much. Way better than thistle. Off to mow them buggers again this afternoon as they should have just flowered and wanna catch before they seed.

I was thinking about this one last night. I found the same thing, that it’s a product of good soil.

The only thing I could come up with from my goofy toolbox is, if it wasn’t there before you started, it’ll likely go away if you don’t repeat what brought it forth the first time.
