Rut is more or less over in Ohio, it seems. Smaller bucks are forming groups and devouring food.

I'm up to 21 for the day. This is #18 she came in with no fawns being followed by 3 - 1.5yr bucks and made the mistake of stopping to sniff my boot tracks from this morning.

Heading to Ohio tomorrow for the opener on Monday. Hoping my sone comes with me. He has to check his school schedule first. Then next weekend ,y oldest said he wants to come with.

Well I was having a nice morning sit in Ohio until some jerkoff came and started pumping the oil wells. The entire forest sounds like industry instead of the peaceful silence of nature.

No, it's not mine. Things would be very different if it was mine. I can probably talk to my uncle and get it sorted.

I've seen 7 deer so far, but man are they skittish. The pumps shut off an hour ago, and it's amazing what I can hear now.

Back in the box after walking to the house for a couple of bowls of venison stew. I think I'll leave the heater off. Full belly, heat and this hammock chair may have me taking a nap all afternoon. Saw 4 bucks (2 legal) 3 doe and a red fox this morning.

Your uncle probably likes to hear the oil pumps turn on as that's the sound of money! How much money does he make from a well on his property?

I have no idea. Not much, i wouldn't think. But he gets free gas from the well to heat his house and shop.

Back on stand. No wind, no oil pumps, just the serene silence of the forest, occasionally interrupted by squirrels bouncing around and chasing each other. I should do this more often.

Watching two one year olds spar at a distance. One has a bum leg.


6 does/fawns just came running out into the cut corn field. They are kind of down wind but its blowing hard enough and they are far enough away I think.

We'll see what happens, its a "magic X" day, wish I had some standing corn or beans to hunt over.

Hunted this morning above my house 25 degrees and a good cool breeze with a couple inches of fresh snow from yesterdays storm..no sightings but I think the deer are using the trail right under the stand to get into my plot…really wishing I had some more late dropping trees about now..(do have 14 from Blue Hill and some others that are supposedly late droppers but they aren’t quite big enough to produce a lot yet..)

Saw 33 today and decided to fill my last doe tag in the last 15 minutes of the day.

More live from work. Just watched a young forky sniff around a doe for a bit and mount her a 2-3 times. She wasn't objecting so I guess she was receptive. By the time I realized I'd missed the button and hit record, he was just about to get off... so to speak. She was limping a little afterwards, I think she finally kicked him off, I assume due to his youthful exuberance.


Otherwise just another normal deer day at work.

My property is full on second rut right now. Bunch of open scrapes and I saw 8 bucks last night, with 5 buck fights (obviously a lot of the same bucks just mixing it up with each other)

90 year-old Baptist Homes resident, John, harvested his very first Whitetail deer. We also saw three bucks (however, this is antlerless season, so they got a pass).
