More often than not they move on to larger destination food by end of legal hrs or shortly after. I did get pinned down by one doe last night.. need to try the laser pointer trick.
What’s that trick? I think I need it.

I got one. Played with a fawn yesterday before getting down. It wasn’t dark so that may change things but she was more curious than anything. At one point pounced after it like a cat. Haven’t used it at dark yet.

I brought a fawn right to my stand that way once. But don't try it with a mature buck. I had one turn inside out getting out of there once in daylight.

Saw 17 does 2 spikes a 9 point and a bobcat. But it definitely doesn’t seem like it’s go time with that many does and hardly any buck activity.

I really F’d myself with this comment. Target buck came in at the end of shooting hrs tonight at same spot. worked a scrape 30 yds away and then set up shop for a while eating in the plot 15 yds from me in the dark. Thought he chased a doe into the woods so I tried to sneak out and bumped deer still in the field that I didn’t see because it was dark. Pretty bummed. Hope I didn’t bugger him up too bad. He’s clearly been living on my place primarily.

A friend of mine got scent busted on a marginal wind on a 160" buck Halloween night, he had the buck on camera in the same spot the next evening 10 minutes after dark. Hunted it again today and came out at 30 yards but no shot.
Moral of the story...who knows what they realize as danger during the rut and how they react.

Best of luck on him WG, glad to hear you're in the game on a target buck. Looking forward to the hero shot!

I think I'd rather spook a target buck after dark by it not knowing what I was and seeing strange movement over getting a nose full of me.

Going to put the full story and pics in my land tour for my record. Not live but had some luck on Saturday. Grunted him in to 15 yards. Thought he was going to come right to the base of my tree but he veered at the last second to give me a nice broadside shot.
