Jbird, can you expand any on the new job?So I have been away from the forum for a bit. Life has just been busy. Trying to land a new job, kids, family drama and the like all going on. On a good note I put my second doe down this morning so we are half way to filling the freezer… nothing special just a doe. I have yet to see a buck to my liking while hunting. It has been an odd year here. My lack of summer annual plots I think has hurt me and I have a neighboring property that WAS a bedding area got hunted this year as well. Couple that with some standing corn still around and we see deer - just not the big ones. General firearms closes the Sunday after thanksgiving so I still got some work to do!
They like the first foot or so of trees and it kills that portion of the tree. So it you have fruit or acorns or the like this area is where it tends to grow. They hammered my sawttoths and chestnut trees and some of the apples. All will pull thru but I lost a year of growth.Looking back at past threads I saw the cicada damage. I didn’t realize cicadas caused damage except to the ears. What part of the tree do they bother? They are never to bad here in Texas but watching golf on tv years ago they were bad during the open.
So I am a mechanical/design engineer. I have worked mostly in some sector of the auto industry for the past 20 years. The company I did work for (roughly 10 years) has been send info work to Mexico, China and India like crazy… blue and white collar jobs. I was informed that my job was being moved to Mexico. They can hire an engineer in Mexico for 30% the cost here. They have been sending a lot of work to India as well for the same reason. The pandemic showed it was possible to work remotely and as such it doesn’t matter if you 10 miles or 1,000 away…. If this country doesn’t pull its head out soon we will no longer be a superpower. We can’t have an economy if we don’t make anything here!Jbird, can you expand any on the new job?

Could not agree more! Build here, by Americans, sell products to Americans, no container ships from China. Good luck J-bird, hope the job pans out!We can’t have an economy if we don’t make anything here!

maybe if these big companies/unions weren't paying their janitorial staff and other traditional lower paying positions $40+/hour these jobs wouldn't be sent over seas. IMO Unions and Insurance companies have completely ruined the job sector. This all happened before the idiot in charge payed everyone to stay home sitting on their hands.A bummer for sure but is the result of many factors. Given the ridiculous hot job market, and employees shortage especially in the engineering field, you should see multiple job offersin a few days once you post your resume online. You have a very high chance of making more money, maintaining your current benefits and PTO time in your next endeavor.
BTW ... the move of companies looking for more reasonable labor isn't a new trend, it started back in the late 80s early 90s when the automakers and other industries started moving out of the midwest to the southeast to find more competitive labor rates.
So I am not sure if I touched on this or not, but I have been away for a while. Things at home went to hell in a hand basket as they say since about October....
I lost my job, landed a new one only to have them back out at the last minute....AFTER they gave me covid!
I am back working now...I am at day #3 at the moment and really like it.
We had the MIL get a late stage cancer diagnosis.
We had 2 family pets put down in the span of a month and a half or so.
You have met the new addition already...Ryno.
And the legal system failed us. I don't want to go into details, but a criminal got off because the system didn't do their job.
Anyhow... hopefully 2022 is kinder. I am looking forward to getting into some more habitat work and hopefully even have a better deer season in 2022 as well.
Sorry to hear that hopefully 2022 is better. So I am not sure if I touched on this or not, but I have been away for a while. Things at home went to hell in a hand basket as they say since about October....

It wasn’t as productive as I would have liked. We never really saw anything while hunting to really get your blood going. I had them on cam but nothing in day light. I tagged a few does for the freezer. There is always next year.Glad to hear things are turning around J-bird! How was your deer season bud?
