That times two may be a better count of predators. Think of it this way. How many hog pictures do you get VS how many are really out there?

I am thinking of size of his property and dens. Coyotes won’t tolerate other packs too close, but prob has 2-4 dens on the size of his property.

Bobcats tend to run solo and I find 1 or so per every 200 acres. Where I got the number. But 2 pics is a lot of bobcats. So may be more

To me that just means you have a bobcat or two in your neighborhood. During the winter I get a bobcat pic spaced out about every 3 wks. There is a breeding pair around here as had a pic with both or immediately after one another in the past. Think they are just doing the rounds in their territory.

Will say have done work and multiple week/monthly stays in AR in the past. They have a decent number of bobcats in that state compared to just about anywhere else.

In my ideal world, the landowner would be given as many doe harvest tags as they'd like and the individual would be able to control the harvest to achieve healthy population numbers.

I personally would rather have extra unfilled tags way more than not being able to even purchase enough tags (current problem in MN).

Maybe for guys who own 1000s of acres but that would be a nightmare for my situation. 6 different Amish families by our land. We wouldn't have any deer left if you gave them unlimited tags.

Seeing 2 coyote and 2 bobcats over a month on camera means you probably have 20 coyotes and 2-5 bobcats on your property. They rarely show up on cameras unless you specifically pattern them.

I have had months with no coyote pics on 20 cameras and I will kill 5 that month.

Coyotes don’t seem to go around feeders. If you plane a camera on a dirt road running through property (in a place you never would for deer ) you would be surprised at coyote pics you get.

Here is a pic of a deer running from a coyote. The camera didn’t get a pic of yote at all. But I had a keen ranger video camera on the area and went back through to timestamp on the Tactacam and found the coyote.

I am sure there is some predation - but as you can see from the observation data above - fawn recruitment is low all over the state. I have discussed it with state biologists, and they agree there is a declining fawn recruitment - and even have an unproven theory or two that I wont repeat here since they are unproven. This state’s fawn recruitment was reported at .8 about ten or a dozen years ago and now we are half that. It is not just my place - but all over the state. And it is becoming common in a lot of other states.

Now, give me a little bit of credit. Several winters I lived in a tent for two or three months and trapped, making the majority of my annual income trapping - and that was when I was starting out as a seasonal biological technician working for the feds ten months a year. I am not a cat and yote expert - but I have caught my share. I know what their sign looks like. I now live on my place year round for 14 years. I am out on it almost every day. I know when I have cats and yotes and know when I dont.

Just my thoughts. Worth what you paid for them.

My crew has over 40 killed this year.

There is obviously something affecting his fawn recruitment and that is my theory on it. I find wildlife biologists often discount the effect predators have on populations. Read about their thoughts on wolf reintroduction and impact on elk and antelope herds. They say they have little effect. Ask any hunter or rancher and they tell you the exact opposite.

It is the same cat. I have got four different cats in one night four or so years ago. Caught four cats next week

i agree 100% - many state biologists DO discount predation. I worried the he11 out of our g&f - and I dont know if it had anything to do with me - but they finally broke down and offered a free predator control permit for trapping and hunting predators year round on private land.

Are the fawns even being conceived? Sample the does late in the season to see if they're even bred. Some research has pointed to neonicotinoids as a possibility for low fawn recruitment. There’s lots of seed being planted that may contain it.
