Inside Out layout

Most of my properties have a main access in the middle of the property . That can be tough for morning hunts .

We do have some secondary accesses.

I guess I have stands and access areas for different winds. There are days where a SE wind for example makes my 40 (not huntable)… so I end up going to another farm which is 8 miles down the road (160 ac).

I’m always cognizant of the wind. Not so much on my travel to the spot but moreso for when I’m in the stand.
This is the part that I’ve always been unsure of how important it is. Seems like some of the “gurus” harp on this quite a bit.l and it’s why they sing the praises of access from multiple sides.

I mean if I have to travel a roundabout mile to get to a spot regardless if I have a permitter or interior road my scent will probably blow in the direction of a deer. People will sometimes say well make sure your scent is blowing into your neighbors, great except I want those deer to come see me too! I worry more about the last 100 yards or so and more than anything except the scent when I’m in the stand. I like to make my approaches into the stand with the wind in my face, same as how I want to hunt that set.
And then I’d argue how much does scent when traveling 1-2 mph walking, 3-4 on my e bike or 4-6 on my sxs even matter? Now if I have a crazy no brainer bedding area then yeah I’m not accessing it with the scent blowing into there. But I don’t have that generally and I’d say 80% don’t. We have more random bedding as opposed to the classic ag country no doubt bedding locations.

Also in my opinion…guru=guy with property in a good neighborhood in the midwest. Send Don Higgins or that one goober who was a home appraiser prior to a YouTube expert to Mississippi and see if they consistently kill big bucks (not over a feeder).

The "Kentucky Nature Lands Trust" is slowly buying the properties that run the back side of my property. Since they don't allow development, hunting, etc on their "preserves", I'm allowing them to act as a sanctuary, while I pump up my food options.

I listen/hear a lot of the people, same as yall do, preach the perimeter trail and hunting the outside in rather than the interior of your property. Im trying to clear a perimeter trail and use the outside in approach (mostly) and have a question. If you had a rule of thumb, how far in do you place your stands? It has to vary a little based off terrain, access, tree/space availability but looking to see if yall have opinions on how far is too far when using this approach?
