Double A Farm (NE Ohio) updates

Quick question for you......I remember you ordered some apples from a nursery out west (Montana??) last year. How are they doing and what was the name of the nursery?

CAS I got most of my fruit trees from Chris at Turkey Creek trees. They have been phenomenal. I got fruit on trees I planted as bare root, single trunks 18 months ago.

I think the ones you are referring to is a deal I got on some Selkirk crabapples from Lawyer Nursery in Montana. I got 10 flowering crabapples for right around $10 a tree shipped to my door. They are great trees and they're growing great.

Here's one later in the summer in the cage in the background.

Got a good bit of work done for a one day trip the other day. Here's a few pics of how the plots are progressing.

Picture of approach to one of the hidden plots, love to see all that green.

My failed corn plot doesn't look too terrible in some spots.

And where it is terrible, no worries. The brassica mix I broadcasted a month ago is kicking butt. I left half of the open dirt for broadcasting winter rye and I got that done the other day.

Got all my mowing done, as you can see the clover strip next to me above. I even prepped a spot for some Cave-in-Rock switchgrass. I'll come back & nuke this with gly in a few weeks then frost seed it over the winter.

Stand access paths were mowed in the tall goldenrod.

And the clover in the orchard & chestnut grove was mowed as well. Need to clean up the cages one more time this year also.

Got a little more stand work in the timber tomorrow and then I'm done going back into the property so it can rest for a month before archery season starts.

Weasel, what's the teepee of logs in the upper left portion of first pic?

I use a lot of the maples & black gums we remove for TSI for fence posts or rails. Stood those up so they were out of the way and easy to grab next time I go by with the trailer.

Not a whole lot to report since I've been staying out of most of the farm this month. Archery season opens on Saturday and, as you can imagine, I'm itching to get in the stand. Weather calling for a 13 degree drop from Friday to Saturday and lows in the mid 40s this weekend. Could be a great weekend.

I noticed three new scrapes that popped up in the last week. It won't be long now.

Oh, and the beans are starting to yellow. Food plots should start to see more usage soon.

Deer are still on the clover, absolutely hammering it. Watched four does Sunday evening walk by everything but the clover.

Great Pictures Weasel! Your farm looks great!

The farm is getting her autumn look on. Man do I love this time of year. Thank you Lord for blessing me with the means and the health to do this.

Been wanting to try "planting" some scrape trees in my food plots. My buddy Chris gave me a hand getting some in.

We kicked in some dirt spots under the licking branches and sprinkled the spots with Gatorade infused urine :D
