DIY crossbow restringing

Anyone restring crossbows themselves? Strings always seem to break at the worst times. The closest reputable shops to my home are about an hour away. They usually want you to drop it off, so figure 4 hours of driving for new strings. I'm considering a Ravin R142 to restring my R10. My brother and I will likely both use the press, and split the cost. Thoughts for someone who has never done it before?

That’s why I bought an Excalibur. Don’t have to leave the house.

Interesting. Kind of bulky though.

It is. Not good In a tight blind.

I have a press for mine. (R20) It's easy once you've done it a time or two. I take my strings off after each season. Something about leaving those limbs under pressure seems like a bad idea.

Same.

I prefer to work on all of my bows myself. From vertical to horizontal no one touches my bows but me.

I researched crossbow presses and decided on this one. Priced cheap but very well made and I think much easier to use than the Ravin press.
