Dco

wildfire

5 year old buck +
I started about 72 dco acorns last spring and planted them last Sept. Expected not much survival, should have watered them, fall was very dry. Went out last Tuesday and counted 44, probably should be more.

They are certainly a fickle tree/bush at times. Takes alot more effort to grow them successfully than some other things. I have come to the conclusion in my area that starting them in containers is an absolute waste of time. The strongest growers are those that are direct seeded into their permanent growing locations. Which really only makes sense, when you take away one of a tree or plants strongest survivability traits (in this case a long tap root) you reduce its chances for survival.

I started them in 18 cell rm, do not know if made a difference.
