Bastian’s Orange Flesh is just starting to drop. The taste is sweet but slightly astringent. I hope I have that term right.

Not fruit tree related, but I will throw the picture on here since I have no longer updated the Sandbox Land Tour.

My wife spends lots of time taking care of the flowers around this old building. Bandit is the Supervisor.

I love that building, have seen pics of it a few other times that you have posted it up...flat out awesome. Tell your wife great job on the flowers too!

Family members of the previous owners thought it had been a smokehouse. It was full of junk when we bought the farm, about 38 years ago.

There was an auction after the bachelor/ owner died.

A doe and a fawn were eating under the chestnut crab. Then the headed to a Prairie Magic.

Now these two does are scrapping over territory in front of the house. One fawn is visible far right. Chasing and pawing at each other. Chasing the other’s fawns .

We have a cold front and they are active.

I turned 45 yesterday. Every time I plant something I wonder if I will be around to see it make anything. I'm already planting stuff and its not for me. Its for those that will come after me. I hope to keep planting until they plant me.

Just as a consolation, Buck - the fruit trees we planted in 2013 have been producing decent crops for about 5 years now, with last year being a banner year for apples & crabs at our place. This year - again loaded. So we began getting production after 7 years. Whatever you planted this year .... you'd see some kind of production when you're 52, and I'm sure you have stuff already planted for several years. Even our evergreens get decent size in 7 years - from 15" seedlings to 7-foot trees in that time. Oak trees are just slow growers - that's just how they are. I won't see acorns on some of the oaks I've planted, but the younger guys in camp will benefit.

So ....... r-e-l-a-x, friend - and plant away!!! SLN has tee-shirts that say, "Plant Until You're Planted." A good mantra, IMO. Have a couple cold ones after a day of planting / habitat work! All good.

For what it is worth, I have been getting pretty good production from pear trees after 5 years. So maybe plant a hand full of pears to speed up the rewards, at least in my climate
