You've got better fruit on your Violi's than we do. Those look good!! Ours isn't planted in the best of spots though - not enough sun, especially early in the morning. Have the deer been interested in Violi's?
Only one limb on V seems to have fruit. I pruned it hard for the last two years. Hard to tell if many have dropped as there are other trees dropping and being eaten around it.You've got better fruit on your Violi's than we do. Those look good!! I didn’t realize Kerr would hold so long.View attachment 72507
I have been stripping 8-10 apples off of the Kerr crab daily. The deer clean them up every night. After the first day, my scent hasn’t seemed to bother them.
It has for me. Somewhere in this thread I think there is a picture of this same tree with fruit in March.I didn’t realize Kerr would hold so long.
Absolutely love this Art, might have to look into something like this for myself.View attachment 72513
Through the years, I have shared scion with people including Ryan from Bluehill and Luke from Midwest Deer Trees. Both have been very kind to me.
Luke dropped this off for me that he made. Note the apples on the trees.
I blocked out our family’s last name on the sign.
That's loaded!View attachment 72507

B118 has been ok. I can’t make any specific recommendations on what to put on it.Suprised it's stil holding, even more surprised its up to 2 legged par for eating.
Was looking at my little kerr on anty. Think she wants to go up north. Too big of a tree to be 12 feet from a white spruce. Ker does have the southern most hand though. Was tempted to buy frostbite from saint lawrence nursery. Didn't realise they held so late. Did swap out big deer for kerr on my 2nd order. Since you mentioned B118, any scions you feel jive real well on B118? Added (3) B118 to try them out up in old usda zone 3 sandy soil northern adirondacks NY 1700ft elevation. was thinking Kerr, winter wildlife, and maybe turning point IF I scoop some scion up tis year. Grafting 5 anty and 10 siberian crabapple from SLN as well.
Poor little guy, hate wounding deer. Gave up on alot of deer folks wouldn't believe I gave up on because I dont want a maybe, I want a sure winner.
That was a bench graft that a friend did for me and he grew it out for a year. That buckman on B118 has 3 lower laterals and a single leader. When you topworked that tree, did that come from one scion piece, or several? Got an anty with droptine on it hoping to make something else. Likely kerr.
frostbite has lots of CAR, but the fruit was still edible. That buckman on B118 has 3 lower laterals and a single leader. When you topworked that tree, did that come from one scion piece, or several? Got an anty with droptine on it hoping to make something else. Likely kerr.
Hows cedar apple rust with frostbite. Sweet sixteen is made from nothern spy croseed with frostibe, they call that tree somewhat cedar rust resistant. Pretty sure ny resistance didnt come from northern spy.

This seedling dolgo is getting use.
Lots of tracks, there, Bur. They like what you've planted for sure. Any activity in your spruce areas??View attachment 72544
The closest tree is a very good eating apple crab. I wish it were closer to the house. Beyond it are a few trees that are just beginning to produce. I didn’t walk down to verify the tags, but there is a Buckman Crab, a Courthouse Crab, a Noran(maybe Norkent), a red stemmed seedling from Crabby Crisp, maybe another seedling, and a tree from Midwest Deer trees. I didn’t walk down to check the labels.
I am not planting any ( well not many) new trees, but am still looking forward to trying some new apple crab varieties.
