Carry weapon and holster

The wife and I are getting our WI concealed carry permits in the near future, although we've never been in a situation where we needed one. We live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Only time we go to bigger towns if to Walmart, Fleet Farm, or one of her doctor appointments. Do you carry yours everywhere, or just certain places?

Anyway, the handguns i have are both 1911's with 5 " barrels, one in 45 acp and one in 22LR. Too big to carry easily. What kind of handgun, and caliber would you guys recommend for concealed carry? And what type of holster? The wife has a little Ruger SR22 she loves, and would probably keep in the bag she carries everywhere.

We'll be finding some type of carry class just to make sure we aren't missing some crucial info about something.

I like the smith and Wesson shield for concealed. And 9mm is the easy button.

I've a S&W M&P 9 & a Ruger LCR 38 with a dot. Both carry concealed very easy. I had a Ruger P89 but the only way to carry concealed was with a shoulder holster. So I usually carried it open. I'm in the same situation small town. But one is always in reach.

I don't carry it but I won a Sig P365 9mm in a gun raffle years ago. It's a nice little gun. Pretty easy to carry.

Walther PPS in 9mm....which I am pretty sure was the design impetus for the S&W Shield when S&W owned the import rights for Walter.

In a Crossbreed IWB holster.

I carry every day. My two most popular are a model 60 Smith&Wesson 357 and a Beretta Tomcat 32. Both with an inside the pant holster.

I carry front right side, both are super comfortable to carry, the S&W with jeans the Tomcat when I wear shorts.

I carry everywhere. I wouldn't recommend anything other than 9mm. I was in LE for 34 years, Glock dominates law enforcement for a multitude of reasons -- simplicity, durability, reliability, accuacy and cost. I carry a Glock 43X with an aftermarket Shield magazine for 15+1 capacity. Red dots are great, until they don't work. Also, they increase the size and ability to conceal.

I do not carry myself. However, I kind of feel the gun would get me into a problem more than it would get me out of one. Thats me.

Think carefully how to carefully carry it. Having the gun go off by accident, or leaving it somewhere is very likely scenario. Make sure its comfortable. I feel most autoloaders should be unchambered. Bobbed hammer revolvers I feel are less likely to go off.

Glocks are good guns. 43 is nice concealed carry one. The nice thing about glocks is they're all similar. So you can go from a 43 to a 17 with little fussing around with safties, reloading, sight picture ,etc.... They're also reasonably priced too.

I've carried a Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380 since 2016. I like the size and how it shoots. I can carry it with shorts and a t-shirt. I need to get another holster because I don't like the metal against my skin. Sweat and metal is a challenge.

When I lived the the Free State of Florida I carried a Sig P238 in .380 but Like Swat alluded to, I always wondered if it was a hot enough round when it mattered. But that little thing fit in my front pocket and really disappeared in an inside the waist holster. I carried everywhere that was legal, unless we were going to have a drink.

I usually carry a ruger 380 in an ankle holster but I always wear pants

I recently thinned the handgun herd down to, just my G43 for carry. I have other pistols and a revolver for sentimental reasons but the 43 is all I carry. I bought it before they came out with the 43x or I probably would have gone that route.

I’m an old grump so I refuse to add an optic. I mostly just use a blade tech plastic holster tucked IWB but I have a crossbreed super tuck if I think I’ll be out and about all day. I have a simply rugged OWB pancake holster for it also, which is by far the most comfortable.

TBH, since I left the cities, I don’t carry much at all. That’s probably a mistake.

My parents are nearing 80. Their hands are a far cry from what they used to be, even just a few years ago. We're kinda transitioning my dad out of semi 9mm into revolvers, and plan to purchase more 22wmr for around the house. It might not be enough, but it might be, and it's better than nothing. He has other options too.

Good comments above. People stress out about what gun to purchase and what round then they don’t spend the money to buy good ammo. Research a duty quality jacketed hollow point. It sucks to spend the money but test your pistol with the good ammo.

There are better looking pistols than glocks. Better triggers. Fit my hand better. Glocks are all I carry.

If I’m home, I want one of my 870’s with buckshot!
