Building a coyote & hog black rifle...

Nice work? You going to eat them?

You should save the tusks for a decoration.

If you bury the carcasses next to a couple trees, they will provide a lot of great fertilizer.

When I shoot a raccoon, I leave it in the sun for a dau to collect fly eggs. Then I bury the carcass near a tree. The fruit trees I've fed varmints to put on huge fruit loads every year.

My buddies use foxpro x24.

I’m an icotec guy. Use the night stalker+ and love it. Tony tebbe full sets have been good to me.

You ever try calling hogs? I have a Convergent Bullet ecaller. I've yet to try it.

I sync'ed the scope and ballistics app on the phone (pretty easy). After completing the break-in process, I used the one-shot zero and am ready to go.

The best way to get started night hunting would be to go with someone who is using them....however, my coyote and pig shooting friends are on the other side of the state, and I am hoping to use the gun before going out with them. Athlon has some good videos to walk one through the process.

The ones I am using are older Herter's made by Tula (Russian). You are correct, the bullet is a 55 grain lead core surrounded by a copper plated steel jacket. These work well for chrome lined bore break-in.

Most (if not all) brass cased Herter's branded ammo is currently made by Winchester.
I got several cases of that tula ammo in 7.62x39 when it was $125-$140 a case of 1000. Those days are long gone.

Been playign with reloads more than the SKS's. Ben a long time since they got out for hunting too.

You guys shoot coyotes during deer season? Shot 2 opening day with the 308. Hunt was kinda ruined by recent harvest of beans.

I bought a couple thousand rounds of Wolf steel case 223 for $89 a thousand years ago I still have maybe 800 rounds left of it. Not the most accurate stuff but it goes bang. Wish I could find some at that price today!!

USDA hog trappers wiped them out here. Went from killing maybe 50 a year to two hog pics in last 18 months. We have killed as many as 153 in six months. I figured it would be three or four months before they started showing back up - but I was wrong. I miss them😎

Your story is the about the same as mine. My son and I have shot so many hogs that we quit keeping count, but I'd guess maybe 30-50 a year for 5 years or so, and most of them shot during the daytime.
We realized we still were not making a big impact on their numbers, and the only way to keep them away was to not bait with corn. 2 seasons of no corn, and we were not dealing with pigs. It actually was nice not to have to purchase and mess with baiting, and we still had the same success with deer without baiting. At this point, we only sprinkle some corn in front of the many cams we out, just to get them to stop long enough to get their pic taken.
It really hard now to find them, especially in the daytime. About once a year now, they'll show up and I'll usually hunt and kill the big boar. I used to tell ppl who wanted to hunt them with me how easy it was. Drive down Friday night, throw some bait out, and hit it Saturday and I'd guarantee at least 1 shot. It's not that easy now, which is fine with me.
However, even with all the aggravation they cause, I kinda miss them a little myself!
