Pics are from 9/12. Clover is looking pretty good about a month after cutting.

Might sit over this spot saturday afternoon. Clover/WR/Brassica mix. Deer are hitting the radishes in this mix.

I believe these are some of the DER I frost seeded back in march. They've been mowed a few times but bounce back just fine. 2nd pic shows some frost seeded in the clover. The strip in the background was planted in July.

This 2nd leaf Hudson's Golden Gem finally started to grow up in the last month, putting on about 12 inches of growth. It sat there for a long time doing nothing.

Looks like something in the brassica mix bolted. Not sure what exactly.

Can anyone identify the giant brassica in the center of this pic. At least I assume its a brassica. Antler king honey hole was planted here. It's massive compared to the others. I never saw this last year.

Brassicas planted back in July. A few things are bolting. In the background you can see some sandbar willows and HP sticks starting to put on some growth. Planted in 2013 I think.

I think you're underselling your clover plot. That looks fantastic!

Thanks! The deer seem to be liking it too. I noticed quite a bit of browsing on it.

X2 with SD. Clover looks like a carpet !! I'd pull out or spray that high, weedy stuff at the edge of your Hudson's G.G. cage so the tree gets all the nutrients. No hiding place for mice/voles then either. Your brassicas are doing great, Badger. I hope ours at camp are doing as well as yours !!

I'll clean the weeds out in the spring around all my apples. For now, I like to leave some to maybe provide some protection from sunscald. They all have window screen on them so I'm not too concerned w/ mice/voles.

I would have given my left nut (well, maybe not literally) to grow a clover plot like that in J.C.

I guess that's the one benefit of the river bottoms. Have just enough topsoil to grow some halfway decent plots. The other side of the coin, it can flood out in a hurry but not much you can do about that.

Badger gets a fresh load of topsoil on much of his area every few years or so, if not every spring, you had no such soil on your place(or ours) in JC. We could have planted on a few select islands in our bottoms on the Little Yellow, but it would have amounted to plots measuring a few hundred square feet, not even large enough to be measured in fractions of acres and right smack in the middle of our sanctuary.

One of my in woods clover plots is on one of those islands. And you're right, its not very big. About 5 yards wide by 30 yards long. I'd like to open up a bigger one in another area.

Those plots are top notch Badger. Great job!!

Was up near Arpin, WI for work today so I took advantage and snuck an afternoon sit in. 19 does and fawns. No bucks. Nothing offered a shot so will give it a try tomorrow afternoon again. Duck hunting in the morning.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Opening day success. Limit of woodies on a solo hunt this morning. Damn near sank in some quicksand trying to get first duck. I think I'll stick to using the boat.

August 1 planted ghr and ptt looking good. Not much for bulbs. Good tops though.

Hanging loins/butter/onions/Worcestershire...good job :)

I might just have to cook them like that tomorrow night. In the fridge to cool off in a little more than 3 hours after the shot. Not too bad. Up early tomorrow to duck hunt again. Definitely making up for missing next weekend due to a wedding.

WTG Badger !! Good eatin' all the way around. Woodies are cool. I think they're one of the sharpest birds flying !! The drakes are a riot of colors.
Are you " one deer " or can you still hunt for a buck ??

Nice shooting Badger, congrats!

Thanks! Still have a buck tag. I bought an antlerless tag for this very purpose. Still no bucks around so I'll wait patiently. Will probably give bowhunting a break for a few weeks.
