Congrats on the doe and the ducks.

Hanging loins/butter/onions/Worcestershire...good job :)

Tenderloin was excellent (duh). Didn't have any worcestershire, but I fried up some garlic/onions in butter/olive oil and then dusted pieces in seasoned flour and cooked them a few minutes. Went pretty good with some mashed taters.

That's looks delicious!! Congrats on the doe!

Update from the last couple weeks. I was wondering if I would have much bulb growth on some of the brassicas I planted as I didn't see a whole lot in September. The lack of killing frosts helped I'm sure.

Radishes aren't the pop can size from a year ago but it's something.

Basically no rain in October yellowed some of them.

Green Globe I think in the Biologic mix. These were planted in June and put on some good growth. Nothing in this mix bolted.

Looking great Jon! I dumped an inch out of my rain gauge yesterday.

Finally started to get a couple new bucks to show up, and both were 2.5 year olds. The yearling 5 point is still around. I kicked him up saturday morning while duck hunting/checking cams. No ducks around. Should have bow hunted. Didn't hunt the weekend of Oct. 10-11 and Got out 3 times the weekend of Oct. 17-18 and only saw 4 deer. I'll blame the October lull. ;)

And now for the depressing part. Didn't hunt this past friday because of the rain. Duck hunted saturday and saw more deer than ducks. Saturday evening hunt produced only one small doe 5 minutes before closing.

Sunday morning was a perfectly still, crisp morning. A coyote chased a doe and two fawns in 15 minutes after shooting light. Coyote got to 15 yards and spotted me as I was starting to draw the bow. The doe ended up going back and forth 4 different times, seemingly spooked by something or just acting kind of weird. That happened over the course of 2 hours. I'm assuming it was the same deer. Then at 10am I look up and see another deer moving right at me, only 20 yards away. Realize its a 2.5 year old 8pt we recently got on camera. Kind of going back to Bueller's post the other day about being happy w/ a 6 point, I'd made the decision prior to the weekend I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a 2.5 year old. The deer continued on straight towards me so I quick stood up, grabbed the bow and prepared for a shot. He walked right past the tree at about 2 yards. I got drawed back and got on him as quick as I could and let it go. He took off and I saw the arrow sticking all the way out and knew exactly where I hit him. High shoulder. Got down an hour later and started looking for blood. Didn't find anything at the point of impact, nothing on the trail to the point I last saw him. I was at the last point I saw him and found one drop of blood and then the arrow was a couple feet in front of that. There was another drop by the arrow and that was it. Penetration was approximately 3". Red muscle blood, fat, and hair were on the arrow. We searched for blood and the deer for a couple more hours. Nothing. Extremely disappointing. I've had two shot opportunities that close and both ended up in non-lethal shoulder hits. I don't know if it's a coincidence but I'm done attempting that shot. Here's a trail cam pic of the buck.

Nice looking bulb growth. I didn't do any brassicas this year and will miss them as winter rolls in.

Thanks! I unfortunately misplaced the chip I took from the camera that I have pointed at these brassicas. Had 100 pics on it. Must have fell out of my pocket somewhere in the wet woods.

Sorry to hear about the missed opportunity :(. At least you can rest easy knowing that buck is likely to heal up just fine.

Yea, we've shot several deer over the years that have arrows, broadheads, etc, still in the body, completely healed over. They are tough critters. Still pissed I screwed up that shot although I'd prefer a 20 yard shot over that one. We're doing a bang up job educating the bucks this year. We've had 3 on camera this fall and have managed to educate each one now. I kicked up the 5 pointer saturday morning and my dad scared the 6 point last weekend while trying to load his crossbow. Have to wait for something new to show up now.

Other than the education - it sounds like no harm done to the buck. Razor cuts that aren't lethal heal pretty cleanly IME.

I noticed one of my brassica plots getting shorter so I gave it a closer inspection. Sure enough they've really started to hit it in the last couple days. We've had a couple frosts recently and that may have prompted them to get after it more. Until recently they had just nibbled here and there.

It also gave me a chance to see that I had pretty good bulb production too, even on later planted radishes and PTT.

Some of the turnips in the Biologic maximum mix are bigger than softball size.

The hunting was slow the past 6 days so I took a few pics tuesday afternoon. 99% of trail cam pics are at night. Besides monday (zero deer in 9 hours) the first couple hours of the morning were the best. The rest were just hours of boredom. Will try it again saturday afternoon. Will watch them raise another Final Four banner on Friday night at the Kohl Center!

Looking good wow!

Great looking brassicas you got there. Hope you get your buck before the orange army comes through town.

Thanks! Hoping this keeps the deer in the area at least.

Thanks! I should have it already if I hadn't screwed up back on October 25th. Thankfully I shot the doe in early october otherwise it might be a vension less year! Duck hunting has been abysmal this year. Only 5 ducks we shot were on opening weekend. Haven't even fired the gun since then. Just hardly any around this year for w/e reason. At least I'll get to shoot some in Arkansas again in late December. Looking forward to that. We did hear some mallards quacking the past week. Wish they'd show up in October though as I don't like to duck hunt in November.

I'll give the bowhunting one more chance this weekend then its time for the gun.

Good stuff from the doe I shot last month.

That box of meat looks like it went bad. Please ship it to me for inspection.
