Ask for help: Great Plains Small Seed Box

Does anyone else get annoyed that the small seed box openings don't have any slope to them? If I am planting a really small brassica plot, I have to constantly get out and move the seed on top of each opening.

Does anyone have a good solution for this?

No, that's just the way it is.

It is unfortunate. I have just decided that I will load the drill with extra seed and vacuum the excess out when I'm done so as to not get "missed" spots when planting. To make matters worse, I also don't have much flat ground so the seed tends to drift to one side or the other inside the small seed box.

That’s what I do also.

Try and make turns gradual and also make sure you turn right and left to keep seed even. If you always turn one way it will all end up on the opposite side.

Some people have made the boxes smaller. A flat wooden plate with soda bottles is one example. Could just build up the the walls with a few layers of plywood. MAybe something floating ontop of the seed might help too, like raquet balls.

Look at swisher 22430.

Agree that you always want to start with more seed than you need. It is a PITA to have stop and keep checking the seed level when you get towards the end. Load more than you need and vacuum it out when you’re done planting. My excess seed never goes to waste. If I am not planting the exact same mix the following year, it will go into a cover crop.
