Anti-APR Chatter In MN Outdoor News

Have you all noticed how unbelievably "quiet" MWA has been about much of anything of value for months (and months)? APR expansion isn't even on the radar for the group most interested in getting it done.

MWA met with the OLA requesting they study the hunter satisfaction diffs between zone 3, 2 and zone 1. MWA wants to be sure the voice and opinions of the hunters are requested and considered in decisions.

The folks of zone 3 are worried about the audit. They fear change in zone 3. They like what has happened.

Hunter satisfaction with the new regs in SE MN has grown since introduction.

MWA is a SE group, MDHA is northern group...apparently nobody is a central third of the state group

MDDI waived a pretty big stick in central and north central MN this year. MDHA dropped the ball in NE MN.

The deer camps of zone 1 are not closing because the public lands are gone. Hunters quit because the deer are gone. As a deer based org time and money are better spent fixing the problem. This 10,000 is a band aid on a pimple.
These 10,000 acres are in zone 2.
I have friends that have a deer camp in this area. taters have put the pinch on their available acres to hunt.

Does not matter what zone it is in when its managed for below CWD herd densities.

Be like a farmer buying more land because he wants more corn but not planting the right amount of corn and skipping the fertilizer. We have plenty of public land to satisfy the need. Its a bad investment.

Yep, gonna form it into an "official" group?

It has been working good loose and free to date. But I have a desire to keep the cash flowing so we have some influence. Money is power.

MNBowhunters meeting tonite. Going to throw the funding pitch for 'Hunter Managed Herds' concept. Knowledge is power as well.

I don't think it is managed for below CWD numbers, but the numbers will be that low if it is all taters.

I would like to hear the pitch for Hunter Manged herds concept. We need to get hunters to wake up!

How would you use those funds? Billboards?

Maybe not on paper....

Not for certain. ODN was a good bang for the space. Billboards at retail are not great for with connections they are a bargain. Whatever spreads the knowledge that spreads the knowledge.

I think if a 'Hunter Managed Herds' initiative got any traction it would become a powerful force in management. DNR acknowledges the power of the trigger and they realize the consequence of not harnassing it. (note pockets in WI)

I can read the headlines "A survey monkey poll found hunter satisfaction in 'hunter managed herds' 10 times higher than public hunter satisfaction."

Be some head scratching there.

Brooks-we got a long way to go. So many will ask, "Don't we have a Hunter Managed Herd all ready?" It's hunter and state mis managed.

I'm with you. Let's help hunters to make good choices.

Keep me informed and I will try to help.

Some of the state land has been getting cleared of all woody plants and I think that is a bad choice. But I actually think that state land in certain areas is excellent hunting. Most of my good go to spots are on public ground. I know that I love having the option of being able to explore and hunt on public ground. It would get pretty boring just being confined to my chunk. I know everyone thinks that they can manage the resources better. But I actually think that for the most part MN, is doing an excellent job of creating outdoor opportunities.

As far as APR, they should have a survey for all deer hunters. If more than half say yes then go for it if not forget about it. They have to accommodate the majority not make the rules to passify a select few. I would vote yes but I would not get bent out of shape if they voted no.
