A Pretty Apple

Pixie Crunch is the prettiest apple growing for me this year. No spray and it shows just a very few Apple Cedar Rust spots. Growing on my trellis on G11 rootstock. No bug damage but all the rest of the apples on the trellis show some "bug bites". Hope it tastes as good as it's description.

It is a newer apple from the PRI program. It's small size (2 1/4 - 2 3/4 inch) has limited it's commercial success, but I've read a lot of good things about it's taste.

Greyphase they are awesome tasting apples. Smaller than most apples but really great taste. I have 2 trees that are bearing great again this year. Enjoyyyyy

Agree! The best tasting you will run into! Well, my girls tell me Honeycrisp still beats it but other opinions say Pixie Crunch for the win! A toss up there I guess. But, Yay for PC!

How are they for disease resistance? A good apple to throw in the deer orchard?

There are a few PRI apples I have passed on because of the disease susceptibility. They are all good for scab resistance. I do have a Pixie Crunch but no apples yet.

Haven't had any of these issues with Pixie but with some other varieties. It's a smaller apple thus the name Pixie duh and it hasn't missed a year of bearing fruit since it first started. Mine are on b118 and yes they are probably too good for the deer lol. Sweet 16 is another awesome apple if you like red twizzlers. Taste comes out in this apple

If you want for deer orchard enterprise, gold rush and liberty are all you need. Deer do t have discriminating taste like us humans. Oh throw in a galarina and you will be set for deer

So, it looks like the Pixie Crunch is ok down to 200 hours???
I'm pretty sure that puts it into the "possibility" of my place (7b/8a in northeast Texas)

Yeah I have all of those listed plus a few more. Just looking to add to it - it's an addiction I tell ya and I am only 1 year in.

Pixie Crunch: It's one prolific bugger I'm here to tell. Has not taken a year off. It grows like gangbusters. My first tree was planted in 2010. It is the most looked-forward to and dependable of my 30 varieties (outside of crabs). Not a deer apple as it is too good to let the deer have.

My tree is just 3 years old, so I can't really say, but so far it has never been sprayed and has shown no disease damage. It's on G11 (dwarf) rootstock growing on a 3 wire trellis.
