20 years trying to get a tag…..and it happened!!!!

Congrats! Great bull and story.

Yes.Talley mount on my abolt. Need to get it running before WI rifle season again. The mount was just fine and took abuse for years and years…..right until it didn’t. Might get another one and might not…..I’m calling Talley to see what they say, first.

I asked because they are the only one i've heard a bunch of stories about them failing. I have one rifle left with them on it just because i've been too lazy to swap em out and re-setup the scope but when there are rings that have about 0% chance of breaking i cant justify putting talleys on again. I bet the Abolt options are a little more limited though which is a bummer.

Just a follow up on a hunch I’ve had for years. This dude is a crook. I have more stories of him breaking the law but they are secondhand from friends and acquaintances so I’ll not share them. Asshat loser

I little epilogue to my hunt last September, regarding Mr Lemon….and not trying to turn my own thread into a bash!!!😂

Since I had discussed my hunt with him previously and went with a different outfitter, he made it a point to call and inquire what I harvested (young 5x5) and sent me a pic of the bull his client got that took the spot he had “reserved for me”.

It was a 330”+ beast.

I was nice to him in my return text and congratulated him and his hunter. But I wondered why he did that knowing I’d never draw another tag?

Dang that sucks, sounds like George from USO outfitters

Two peas in a pod.
This is painting with a broad brush…but I’ve yet to meet, or hear about any outfitters that were stand up individuals. I’m sure they are there but so far in my lifetime I haven’t run into any.

I know there are bad ones, but I have been on 2 outfitted/guided hunts and they have been spectacular human beings. they weren't the cheap hunt guys (which may make a difference) but Ralph at Trophy Ridge in NE Wyoming and Tony at Hidden Alaska Outfitters were clearly a fantastic blend of hunters and hospitality.

I think when people want to hunt "on the cheap" is where they start taking chances with shady characters.

Yeah I’m jaded. I have an anti outfitter bias so I tend to latch on to the negatives. The horror stories from western guys and the way they treat white tails and turkeys in the east is criminal.
With that said I went on a guided fishing trip in Alaska and they were great. But…some Norwegians made a documentary about them and their tactics of dealing with people fishing “their” water so I’m sure they are really douches if you aren’t handing them an ass ton of money.

We live in a broad brush world...

There's good and bad in just about any industry, it's unfortunate that you and I as the "uneducated consumer" have to discern where the truth is and where the BS lies, from thousands of miles away.

Seems like if you are an outfitter in the arid southwest that frequently hosts holders of 6 figure $ auction tags, there's a good chance there's some unbecoming shit going on.

I've also hired 2 outfitters, one was required (non-res dall sheep - Jonahs alaskan outfitters) and the other was just my lust for a big bull where i thought i saw a window of opportunity that might be shrinking in a predominantly private land area (Bighorn Outfitters in WY, hunt was SE MT). I have nothing negative to say about the owners of either, both left a positive impression.

First one my buddy and I went on we had to spend the night in the Shafferville Quebec mortuary.Had the embalming table and boxes of half suits and everything. We thought that surely was the worst of it.Oh no because we were the only archers we had to walk everywhere while gun hunters got the boats.then when the hunters in camp ordered we be moved as the contract stated we slept on the plane tied up in river.Still tell stories about that trip. Then we both guided in CO for different guides me for a year and him 2 years.I know several outitters i would go with and places like bowsite have some good resources also
