10X16 log park type shelter

OK, dug a trench, laid some 1" gray PVC conduit, used an "inlet" plug/box as a junction box and will tie shelter power into cabin. Cabin is fed via the generator inlet cord.

Trenching was a breeze, I bought one of those electric jackhammers with the wide chisel bit, busted right though the hard packed surface. The trench went fast, will pull #10AWG THHN wire, red, black, white and green, will install a small subpanel at shelter, a 15A for lighting and 2 ceiling fans and will also add a few outlets too.

The fans will keep air moving and keep the bugs away in the evening as the sun goes down and the lights come on.
I brought the conduit in behind the front post, wouldn't look right looking at the structure from the front and seeing the conduit.
I have a 100 foot Klein fiberglass fish tape, will pull the wire in next spring and trim it all out.

Now will start to collect supplies to wire it all up, ie boxes, conduit, ceilign fan (outdoor type)

OK, just got back, pulled my wire (10AWG THHN multistrand) through the buried 1" conduit, terminated each end to fuse boxes, broke shelter circuit into 2 15A circuits, one for lights, other for outlets.

I used one of those conduit heater blankets to form my conduit around irregular shapes. Best investment I ever made. 2 ceiling fans, 2 switches to each fan, one controls fan, other controls light X2.

I paint it in a few weeks to match the cabin.

I really like this thing! Outstanding work!

Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

My next project is a large serving counter on the back and, going full width, ie about 10 feet and 32" deep, this is 2" thick. Gluing using biscuits. I cut down an old snag, 200+ yr old tree on my place thinking it was rotten. And inside was the nices tightest grain solid log I have seen. Sap wood was punky, but heartwood was solid. I have 2 of these huge log chunks, skidded out with my Kubota.

The serving/cooking counter will keep the table open for people and eating space.

The 2 heels, I may make either 2 benches with bottom or one with bottom and back, will set on another 2 short logs for the bottom.

Headed back this coming weekend to stain it in Behr solid color stain, N150-7 Chocolate Therapy, I call it Forest Service Brown. ;D

I will post updated pictures, this will hide my wiring and conduit too.

Very cool! Lots of work!

OK, all done, painted, looks liek USFS or NPS structure.

Next project, log swingset for grandkids and a teeter totter.

Sweet!

OK, working on that old slabbed log for a back counter for the park shelter. Be full 10 feet wide and 32" deep. The planks were trimmed and glued in place, now finish work and then the Stone Coat Countertops, be using a clear. Will burn my branding Iron into the wood in several spots first.

And speaking of brand, got the finalized design done. Crosscut log with brand in middle etc.

Back serving counter is coming out real nice. This all started when I decided to cut down what looked like an old rotten snag. After cutting it, realized it was solid. Took the Kubota and drug it out, 2 large chunks about 8 feet long, about 32 inches at the widest. The outside was punky sapwood, but the hear was solid, tight clear grained stuff.
Slabbed with an Alaskan chainsaw mill, stored in container for a while and decided on this counter. Just finished sanding it, but in the brand and coated it with a product called "Stone Coat. Here is where it sets now. Will get a rear backsplash and lower ones on the sides.

very nice. And that stone coat product line looks interesting.

Your definitely not afraid of a little work to get the outcome you want. Nicely done.

Counter Saga. All pictures, I wont need to say a word.

OK, was hoping it would keep in the same order I posted them. Just rearrange them I guess.

Quite the wood worker!

OK, well, guess I am officially finished with the log park shelter/kitchen. I added the stone coat slab I made from the deadfall, I did do the stone coat over my burnt in brand plus the sticker/logo like my avatar. I added the counter to the rear across, its 11 feet wide almost 32 inches deep.

I mounted it on the rails I installed around the perimeter. I left the front open and the RF side. I am adding a log swing set in the back along with a horseshoe pit.

It looked funny with just one rail,s o I added a second rail. I also set a 2X8 across the top rail, makes for a great spot to eat, set beverage, set a charging cell phone etc and just lean on and chew the fat.

While I was over there, I was becoming over run with weeds and grass growing in the campsites (all graveled base) plus some on the road, spraying by hand, but the weeks were getting ahead of me. I purchased a 16 gallon boom sprayer with a wand also, set up in back of my little Kawasaki Mule and did the entire campground and roads in 40 minutes, then went back and did a second spraying. Sure made life eay.

Also found another slick device, Jakes wire fence tighteners. I had some loose barbed wire, as you fence guys now, pain to tighten, not any more.Attach files Just wind these in and its done.

JAKE'S WIRE TIGHTENERS

Will add a sign across the back reading "Ride For The Brand" and will burn in my JJ Brand at each end. I got the idea from a Harriet Hageman campaign add for Wyoming running against Liz Cheney (whopped up I might add) see add in link

OK, need ideas on a log swingset plan, I have an idea in my head, will be stout, for grandkids, kids and even adults, my grandkids range from 13 to 27 now. Of course, it will be stained in Behr N150-7 chocolate therapy. :D

OK, few more pictures, limit was 10.
Killer I used, sprayer info, did get from Amazon, was fulfilled by Northern Tool, free shipping. Also stained a hitching post. Note the decorated cuts on the end of hitching post? You see that often on log structures built way back, wasnt for decoration, anyone know why? Of course, I have to replicate it. And my shower. Final upgrades. Its a 4X6 with a large 55 gallon while plastic drum on top we painted black to collect heat and resist algae. Shower runs off blue jug, gets low, turn on valve, fills up. I dont have a reason to go home now.

Cabin is super nice, but this log shelter now has taken center stage. Its the big draw now. People just like things made out of logs.

On a good note, I didnt see a single new beetle kill, so maybe its run its course. Sad as that was reason I built shelter, life was handing me these nice logs.

How do you like the chainsaw mill, what kind and would you recommend it? How long is your saw blade?

How do you like the chainsaw mill, what kind and would you recommend it? How long is your saw blade?

This one was a loaner, not sure brand, maybe a Grandmill? Saw was a Stihl 056 with a ripping chain. Dont use cross cut chisel chain. It had an extra oiler on other end. Went pretty quick overall. I have one more log left to slab, should get me a at least 6 more 2" thick slabs or more.

A few more pictures. Last one, cabin was closed up, headed home.
