Using more of a lifting motion creates a clean break between stem an spur. As opposed to ripping the apple off the stem in a downward motion and having the the apple fall into a metal basket.

I used it last year and it worked great. I didn’t pick a ton of apples but enough for a couple batches of sauce. There is a foam insert in the bottom to prevent bruising. If you are picking lots of apples ladder would be better.
