What kind of lead you laying down?

Been almost a month since there's been a post on here.

What's your firearms plans this summer? Rezeoring the 450 marlin from 100 to 150 yards. Still got a 308 that needs to be well proven beyond 100. I reloacted the bullet trap at home, have ot shot a single shot yet Moved it a few days before I tore my bicep. MY father in law who ives next door was being nice to me, the 76 year old man ran the DR walk behind brush hog and ceaned up a new spot for me.

Ne new guns or bows planned anytime soon. I do have a 54 cal flintlock I need to work on some. I know some of you PA guys got flintlocks you haven't put a pic up on here yet............ Used to hunt hershey PA and milford PA area. Thinking I need to get my PA license for this winter..... Alot of acres of grreat public land, and all the armchair warriors are too cold to go out and hunt, so I get thousands of acres to myself again.......

My long time stand by - Rem AR 15 .450 Bushmaster with thermal scope.

I have been thinking about getting a 5.7x28 handgun. Would like to talk to someone who has one, first.

I love a good gun thread.

I got a new Ruger Ranch .223 last Winter and I've only shot paper out to 50 yards with the M855 ammunition. I bought some Federal ammunition loaded with v-max bullets that are more appropriate for the rifle's intended use. I will sight those in and just practice out to a couple hundred yards. Hopefully they will work with the 1:8 twist. They're 55grain so I think it'll be fine. It's my farm vermin getter. Well, my old .22 bolt action rifle is the primary vermin getter. But this one will be fun.

For deer? I dunno. Everything is pretty much dialed in: My Winchester M70 in .270 shoots to the same place every year when I pull it out. I have boxes and boxes of the old Remington Accu-Tip 130gr cartridges for this so, not a lot to do there. I've got an old Marlin (manufactured in 1948) 336 that'll eat about any 170 gr .30-30 cartridge I've tried and put them in the same spot. I've got my muzzle loader fairly dialed in with 100gr BlackHorn 209 and a 200gr Shockwaves. I mess around with that some, and have about 10 different types of bullets. With the price of the BH290 powder nowadays, I think I might look at using pellets again. But it's got iron sights and hate having to move those darn things around. I'll probably just shoot another doe at 25 yards with the smoke pole this year again anyways. And, I'm likely to just bite the bullet and spend whatever it costs to get another jug of my favorite powder. I feel like I'm pouring gold dust down my barrel every time I load it though.

My firearms life is pretty boring.

Put together this new tikka 6 creedmoor recently. 18” benchmark #4 barrel. I had the factory 6.5 creedmoor barrel that came with it chopped and threaded at 18” too. Main purpose is a gun I can shoot factor ammo through and hunt whitetails suppressed with. My othe guns are mostly SAUMs (6.5 and 7), a 300wsm, a long range focused 300 WM, and a 6.5x47 lapua comp rifle. None are good for shooting a lot of factory ammo.

This new habitat obsession and 2 kids under two is really putting a damper on my shooting time thoughA72C1E7E-37B4-4E21-97FD-29BB3F370EED.jpeg.

A little firearm eye candy. Not for sure on all the calibers - but I know the farthest one over is a Heym .500 NE double. The others I believe are a .458 Lott, .404 Jeffries, and .375 H&H. They are not mine - but I have shot them all. That .500 is around 12 lbs and is still pretty brutal. Makes the .375 seem tame. I dont know how that nasty assault rifle snuck in there

I’m getting the wants for a Rugar Mark 4 22 handgun I think. I did repair my 1000yd target the other day in preparation for a Saturday or Sunday range day, my buddies making noises about maybe shooting some weekend. Everyone been a bit reluctant to shoot a lot with component issues we have been dealing with but things are calming down on that front. Price of primers is still a bit ridiculous but at least somewhat available there for a while they where white unicorns.

Your post was a good reminder to get out there and throw some lead. I have a couple of rifles that need to be zeroed and a new cross bow from Christmas that needs to be sighted in and field tested. There are so many things on my to-do list, but if this does not get added, it won’t get done!

Bingo. My Winchester M70 .270 never waivers with Remington Core-Lokt 130 gr. Year after year after year after year…..

I have a couple that need scoped and wrung out:
2 Kimber Montana's, one in .223 and the other rebarreled to .338 Federal. Also have a Rem LVSF in .223 that I need to decide if I'm going to shoot or sell. I bought it for shooting woodchucks, but most of my chuck shooting is close up with a .22 mag these days.

I picked up a new (to me) Savage Model 12 VLP in .204 cal around Christmas time last year. I bought it from a buddy who had only fired it 23 times since buying it new. I didn't want the scope he had on it so I just bought the rifle. I have been trying to scrounge up everything else I need for it ever since.
IMG_0884.jpg

He did have the tool to adjust the Accu Trigger in the box so I adjusted the trigger down to 2.0# which is as low as I could get it.
IMG_0872.jpg

I have been on the "Notify Me" list since early January at Leupold waiting for a VX3 HD , 6-20X40, but it is still not available so I finally bought a Vortex Viper HS-T, 6-24X50.
IMG_1309.jpg

After flipping a coin several times, I finally decided on Leupold Back Country Crosslock base and rings. Even though Leupold said they didn't think it would be necessary to lap the rings I decided to go ahead and lap them anyway...
IMG_1387.jpg

Mounted the scope and got it leveled and eye relief set. Then bore-sighted it (eyeballing it through the bore) at 10 yards in the barn.
IMG_1394.jpg

Went out on my range and hoped to get lucky and hit paper at 100 yards instead of setting up a 25 yard target like I normally do. Also brought along the cleaning kit as I decided to go ahead and do the barrel break-in and cleaning procedure recommended by Savage - even though school is still out on whether or not barrel break in is really necessary...
IMG_1409.jpg

Well....my first shot went into never-never land I think as I didn't get lucky and hit paper at 100 yards. I pulled the bolt and looked through the bore and could not see the target so I centered the paper as best I could adjusted the scope to the middle of the paper and took another shot....after cleaning the barrel, of course. Fortunately, the bullet hit only several inches low and right of my POA so I just moved the reticles over to where the Point Of Impact hole was and my next shot hit very close to my Point of Aim. 3 bullets and I was zeroed. I don't think I will bother trying to bore sight inside the barn again - I could have saved one of those bullets.
IMG_1407.jpg

Of course, I spent more time cleaning the barrel than I did shooting but I got through the barrel break-in and cleaning procedure (40 rounds) and got the barrel a little closer to being broken in.
IMG_1410.jpg

My last 2 groups with the factory ammo were good enough to let me know I can probably turn this rifle into a shooter by hand loading for it...The 40 grain Hornady V-Max group was a little over 1/2"....
IMG_1421.jpg

and the factory 32 grain Hornady V-Max group was a little over 1/4"

As I mentioned, it has been a struggle trying to come up with rifle accessories, brass, powder, primers, etc, but slowly but surely I have now been able to get enough components to start loading.

I never reloaded for the 204 before so I had to purchase dies. I went with the Redding Premium Die Set - Deluxe...
IMG_1496.jpg

Which has the Micrometer seating die. I think I am really going to like this seating die and if so I will likely get one in 22-250 and maybe some other calibers.
IMG_0885.jpg

My wife has a Browning A-Bolt in 204 but she shoots 1 hole groups with it with factory ammo so I've never reloaded for it. She did, however, have 255 once fired cases which she gave me...
I ran them through the tumbler to clean them up, cleaned up the inside primer hole and uniformed the primer pockets, and then Full Length Resized them so they are ready to load. I may just Neck Size them in the future.
IMG_0878.jpg

I found 400 32 grain VMax bullets a while back but I really wanted to especially load the 39 grain Sierra Blitzking Bullets. I have been on the "Notify Me" list all over the world and finally got notified by Natchez that they had them in stock. I bought 500 of those and they just arrived a couple days ago. Today I was notified by Midway USA and another one of my suppliers that they also had them in stock.
IMG_1497.jpg

I knew I wanted more than 255 casings so I was on the "Notify Me" list for 32 grain Hornady VMax ammo as well. I think it was Midway USA that finally notified me that they had some back in stock so I bought 10 boxes from them. I also have 60 more - most of what I shot up breaking in the barrel which I got from my buddy who sold me the rifle. So...with 515 bullets and cases I hope to have enough for my South Dakota Prairie Dog hunt next month. I am also taking along my Rem 700 - 22-250, my Savage 93 in 22 WMR and my wife's Ruger 77 in 17 HMR with about 500 rounds each for those rifles.
IMG_1498.jpg

Primers have been hard to come by as well. I was able to get a full brick of Federal 205 Small Rifle Primers (not my first choice but beggars can't be choosers) and 100 CCI BR-4 primers.
IMG_1471.jpg

IMG_1472.jpg

I was also able to snag a pound of Reloder 10X which has good reviews with the 39 grain Sierra BK. I also have a fairly good selection of other powders to try out.
IMG_1499.jpg

So.....between planting more crabapples, planting some leftover "Summer Release" seed from last year into last fall's cover crops, and several other "Honey Do's" which Elaine has put on my to-do list, I will be spending some time at the reloading bench getting ready for Prairie Dogs soon.

This is my coyote rifle - Rem 700 in 22-250 which will become a Prairie Dog rifle next month...

my Savage 93 - 22 mag
IMG_0616.jpg

and Elaine's Ruger 77 in 17 HMR which I will take also. I shot this PD at 177 yards about 10 years ago - the last time I was out west for Antelope and Prairie dogs.

Beautiful walnut on those stocks that’s some nice gun porn

I have several of the micrometers seating dies I like them particularly for calibers I have in multiple guns.

I understand have multiple safes full guns and what gets used is kept by the door a 20ga Mossburg for house sparrows and a Marlin 17 HMR for about everything else that needs killing around the yard. I do keep an AR in the truck if I’m out and about and see something. I missed an opportunity for a woodchuck the other day I spotted him but by the time I got the truck turned around and back down by the barns he had made himself scarce.

Kinda jealous here with all the AR stuff. Was getting pieces here n there for a 458 socom stalk hunting rifle. Don't feel like walking in public land with a gun that's not ok in NY though. So, the 450 marlin is still around. Was looking around for a nation match AR too. Just like the A2 look.

About a week or so after the NY gun law came into effect, ancaster arms called me up and said my AK was ready. Plum laminate stock, steel reciever, and optics mount for a 517 eotech. Got a few SKS's, but just dont take them out hunting.

Been a long time since I have done a blackpowder competition. Was thinking of heding out to the cabin, but my wife thinks my arms needs to heal up some more before we go.

I've just been biding my time, shooting a round or 2 occasionally, getting ready for Alaska this fall. 300 WSM is putting bullets where I want them. I don't see a lot of reason to mess around with what i have.

I have my pet rounds for the 243 that are pretty rough on groundhogs and perhaps the feral cat or 2 (or if the FBI is reading this, perhaps not)

a lot of eye candy here! i love the look of a laminated stock, and combined with a thumbhole, it's the most comfortable stock i use. Boyd's has made some money off me.
I'm not a reloader, so have always used off the shelf ammo. It stuns me to hear you all having good accuracy with Remington Core-lokt ammo. I have 3 primary rifles I use for varmits, pigs, deer. Over the years, I've tried about every name brand off the shelf ammo out there. I just couldn't get tight groups with Rem Core-lokt, more fliers than usual, and on top of that, it's the only ammo i ever had a dud or two straight out of the new box. Not downing your experience, glad it works for you! I really wanted it to work, especially since 2 of the 3 rifles are Remington 700's. The most accurate, cheap, off the shelf ammo I've found, for all 3 primary rifles, is Federal Fusion.

The Federal gold medal match ammo generally shoots very well out of most of my guns anyway but it is not a hunting ammunition.

What are you going after in Alaska?
