Tick patrol?

Apple Junkie

5 year old buck +
This is an interesting sequence, but I am not sure what the purpose of this grooming is. Picking ticks off each other’s nose maybe? Any other ideas? …anyone ever see this among bucks?

I've watched them groom each other. I took a few pics one evening as these two took turns picking ticks from each other. Another one made friends with a bird and never bothered with him at all. At times it appeared that he moved his ears around to give the bird better positioning. I never tire of watching nature!

So true cat, the things ya see when you take the time to watch what goes on in nature. These are great pics… so it appears bucks cooperation in tick grooming is not all that uncommon. The bird / buck is something new to me, but I am always amazed how critters seem to figure out how to work together for their mutual benefit. Great post.

What kind of bucks do you guys have at your farms? The bucks in Minnesota would rather have ticks than let other bucks lick them!
