The Wildlife Group is closing ?

5 year old buck +
Saw a post on Facebook that Allen Deese is leaving The Wildlife Group and going to Native Forest Nursery. In the comments it said they Will be only be open thru this winter. TWG had some good varities of Pears , Glad I got some Gilmer Christmas and Wildlife pear trees last year !. No Real info other than that , maybe somebody will buy it and keep it open ?.

That sucks. They had a few items that Nativ Nurseries does not carry that I wanted to get planted this winter. Maybe I can get them before they close up shop.

I'd e mail them now and ask if they will be able to ship what you want this fall or winter.

The AU buck chestnut patent expires January 2028. I wish it was sooner

I was looking at those for a while, but then when I found out they are not grafted and hoping for proper pollination I became skeptical.

Watched several tree nursery inventories this past season. Many had unsold inventory. Might see a few more places evaporate in the next couple of years, if not sooner.

Pears are pretty easy to graft........

I’ve had great luck out of mine. The seedlings do so much better in the ground than grafted trees.

That would be nice. So many people jumped on the I could make some quick cash if I only opened a nursery business (maybe as a result of the Covid lockdown) a few years ago. I believe I have finally seen less advertising by a few that were splashing their name everywhere. I called out a few of them on Facebook over the last year or 2 on their false claims, but that gets tiring as well.

Dang I wanted to order some Chinese chinquapins from them

I’ve got several of their late drop pear trees and the AU Buck seedling trees not the grafted ones maybe in a few more years I’ll be able to speak for how they produce.

If it’s not grafted, what are the chances it will have the drop characteristics of the parent tree though?

I think chestnuts carry I much higher probability of being close to the parent trees characteristics than say apples are at least this is what I’ve read someplace.

Less. But these trees have been producing for 30-40 years so they crossbreed only with other AU bucks. So seems to be pretty high. I’m getting more and more chestnuts every year producing so will let you know as I know.

I really like a few of the TWG trees, especially the Gilmer Christmas pear.

But as far as Allen Deese, I posted up the unprofessional interaction I had with him last spring. Took me three months and two filings with the BBB to get my refund....good riddance.

I have 10 of the Gilmer Xmas hope they do well for me. I believe they have put on some good growth one of my more aggressive growing varieties if I remember correctly. Really sort of wish I’d of planted more pears and crabapple trees and less apples my area is not a great apple growing area of the country like it was up north where I grew up in northern Wisconsin wild apples would grow in road ditches and abandoned farm fields with no help at all.

I remember that incident !. As for Allen Deese , he was a bit of a Tool in the manner he replied to comments on TWG's Facebook page.

As far as the Gilmer Christmas pears, even though TWG is closing its doors…that is the best late season pear I’ve ever seen.
It literally slow drops fruit into January here and definitely has a place in a wildlife orchard in areas where habitat junkies can grow pears.
I encourage members to take advantage of the scion trading we do here in winter to keep that variety alive and well.

It’s not a pear that is tasty to most people at all, but checks off a box for late season slow drop soft mass that just about all wildlife will eat.

Please send me some scions this winter. Sounds perfect for my Ohio pear project. Do you think it will survive Zone 4? It might fit into my Ontario orchard too.
