How much are you supposed to get ?? The way the weather has been changing so much, it may not last long - whatever you get.

Deer look good.

I would say we got about 8 inches.

With increased snow depth the deer have shifted back to the corn.

Deer sidewalks work in the woods and in the corn.

Maybe they got tired of fermented apples and decided to eat some corn. :)

Here is how the field was planted this year.

A few years ago I left the middle of the cornfield stand all summer. It provided feed through early summer and the weeds made great bedding in the fall.

If Deer were moving thru the middle of the field you could easily get a shot. If bedded I would only see them if they were getting up.

Last spring, my neighbor just disked it. He then goes and plants his regular crops and returns to the foodplots for himself and me at a later date. If we have adequate Deer numbers, they have a few weeks to clean it up. There still is volunteer corn out there, though.

You can see a bit of rye/oats along the inside edge of the corn and I think there is a fawn in this picture.

So you don't mow and chop the corn, the farmer just disks the stalks under?

Does your soil support every year corn planting or alternating?

Some of our soil only supports corn every other year.

It would be good to rotate out of corn. The field usually gets a load of dairy pit manure every year.

Here is the last package of applesauce for the year. Cider is gone. Apples fed my family and the Deer for over 6 months. With another variety of early apple coming on and in time opening the fence. Around some seedlings, I will have Deer feed for well over 7 months.

It is mainly dolgo with perhaps a few Firecracker or Berry Crab.

We have been making two types of apple sauce ... dolgo and chestnut with just a few apples occasionally mixed in. If I get too many larger apples in it, the flavor fades.

We like Kerr here too. Real tasty in October, if you're of a mind to eat some.
