Storing Hybrid Willow/Poplar Cuttings

Hey all - I'd like to take some cutting to move around from my Hybrid Willow and Poplars. I've got a dark, cool room to keep them in, but what should I use to cover them up? I don't have any of the really long plastic bags like they came in anymore. I'll be cutting 5-6' sections to plant.

Willows wake up fast. I don't think a dark cool room will keep them very long. Anyway to cut and plant ASAP?

Not before they get buds on them. And not before the last chance of frost. Unless it would be ok to take the cuttings in April and hope we don't get frost.

Or do you think putting them in a gutted out, but working fridge for a 2-3 weeks would be ok?

If the fridge still works and you put it on the lowest setting possible I'd say it would work.

My fridge at the farm will not freeze liquid solid but on the low setting it makes ice chunks in the coffee creamer and freezes lettuce.

I'm sure that would keep them dormant for a few weeks.

I'd wet them and wrap them in plastic. Something like a plastic paint throw for painting.

I can't speak for the poplar but I'd bet the willows would take being poked in the ground and they would shrug off a frost or two. Willows are like marines, they can take a beating.
