There are a bunch of 1" sized red crab apples hanging on a Winter Wildlife crab from SLN at camp. < ( maybe 3 dozen hanging - planted 2015 ). 2 Goldrush trees had a couple apples still hanging - but I picked them to eat !!! We also have a yellowish-green apple ( no idea what it is ) that still has hundreds of apples on it. I have no pix.
We had some Enterprise and Prairie Spy apples, but they got picked by members to eat. Don't know how long they'll hang here ........ yet. Next year !!
I passed a loaded roadside (wild?) apple with big red apples Sunday, the 29th. I regret not stopping to try them. Maybe I can get scions for grafts later.
I just checked it on streetview and the 2009 pic shows a tree a third the size. I can barely believe it.
At the house, I got the same 2 apples on a columnar Blushing Delight. And I've been shocked by a seedling pear holding pears. It is in a group of 6 to 10 trees that i thought always dropped their fruit by the start of October.
I'll see what still has apples in my young orchard this weekend. Probably just goldrush.
I just picked 2 bushels of Nova Spy 2 bushels of Granny Smith, 2 bushels of Enterprise and half bushel of Suncrisp which is an amazing apple. Also picked bushel of Gold Rush and most still hanging. jonagold as well and picked Golden Delicious yesterday. Haven't even touched the Florine Querina and my Freedom trees still loaded along with my King David's. The deer should have a great few weeks coming up if thenapples start falling more rapidly. I couldn't harvest all my apples this year and still be married lol. It would have required full time effort and some additional help so the deer will be the beneficiary of all the leftovers lol
Here is a photo of my Dolgo on October 1st. 3rd leaf grafted tree from Cummins. I think it is a candidate for topworking to something else.View attachment 15586
If my Dolgo has shriveled up, rotten prunes on the opening day of archery season, I don't think it is a good use of space in my orchard. There are plenty of other varieties I'd like to try instead.
About 1/2 of my Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious are still hanging. The majority of fruit still on Liberty, Freedom, Jonafree, Bonkers, Suncrisp & Florina Querina. Almost all apples remain on my Winecrisp, Nova Spy, Enterprise, Crimson Crisp, Sundance, Goldrush, Galarina and (as I remember) Kerr. My trees are primarily for wildlife although we do take a few bushels for friends and family.
