Sheds

@buckdeer1 It was trying to be a yote set, but since I've not (yet) caught a yote, it might be generous to call it that. I've got a few sets out. This one wasn't according to any specific set I've seen. I used the tractor to remove a packrat nest, and dumped it at the edge of the trail. After doing that, I thought it would be a point of interest for the predators to investigate. A branch happened to fall so it was extending into path. I figured as they investigate the pile, the branch would encourage foot placement in a specific place. So I put a trap in the spot and smeared some bait on the underside of the branch. I was planning on doing a dirt hole or trench set in this place, but happened into this. The set had been there a few weeks and I had freshened up the bait recently.

@Catscratch I watched youtube videos on several methods before settling on this. some use a catch pole and stretch them out away. Some use a piece of plywood as a barrier. It was my intent that the barrel would remain in place and the cat contained until I was standing up and chose to tip it. But once it pulled its leg in, the cat tipped the barrel, and it was all I could do to get a few steps away.

I found two sheds yesterday spreading clover, then later I jumped two bucks with full hardware on their heads

Worked too bad wasn't a couple weeks ago.I don't trap much but when I trap coyotes I use an old cow or deer bone and set so they will walk up and pee on it like a dog.have caught both cats and coyotes on these. Our local trapper makes a lure called predator potion and don't some real amateur utube stuff but catches alot of critters a year and probably runs one of the biggest lines in Kansas

That is exactly where I think they are, or in the native grass pasture right next to it.
The cameras are showing about half the bucks have shed. Seeing around 30 deer in the evenings over there when I drive by.

Only downside is it keeps snowing off and on here.
So did you check the big woods yet?

Do you know that deer, dawgs?

Yeah he’s a regular. Well as of this year. I can’t say I knew him last year but he may not have stood out. Was cool to find both in the middle of the woods about 10 yards apart. I’ve only found one other shed this year. I’m watching three bucks right now with both sides still

Sweet! Looks like he could try or be a 12 soon.

Had 2 on cam still holding one side yesterday. I haven't paid much attention to typical drop times beyond seeing a bunch drop in Jan a couple years ago when the winter was brutal. Seems late though.
