Sheds

Nice,I haven't stepped foot in timber as I still have some carrying yesterday. Besides I had to prune 30 fruit trees, mow fire breaks, water 44 trees we moved, and still 5other things I need to get done.

Thanks Cat. Try not to waste my time with those big easy to see ones. 4 of my last 6 sheds have been spikes. You found some good ones!

Left for Hays Thursday night, watched wrestling until Saturday afternoon, then to Little River for a Basketball game. Got back in town late last night, then headed to Udall this morning to return a PoleVault pole. Just barely having time to walk a little once every couple of weeks. Should have disced firebrakes today instead of looking for antlers.
The wife said she saw 2 in the yard plots this weekend that still had both sides. 3 of the ones I found today had bright blood on them. Good luck to ya when you do get to go out.20250302_132836.jpg

I'm not a big prankster. My kid bought that thing on ebay. Not my cup of tea but he had a 50$ gift card and threw another 50 at it. He says he didn't expect to win it but nobody else bid. I'll admit it is pretty cool. Auction lessons.

Lol, good job man... good job!

He was home that day and asked if I could pose it for a couple pics. Tried 2 spots. Thing must weigh 5 lbs. Feel bad we supported the deer farm industry :( Chris colored it with potassium permanganate and did a nice job.

Still haven't found any sheds. But yesterday evening a buck with both antlers made an appearance. That's a trapped bobcat they're looking at. I guess the deer came to investigate the cat?
It was my first cat. We went down this morning and released it.

Nice buck. We're stilling seeing antlers on heads.

How was the release? Cats make some neat (wicked) sounds when you get close to them.

Here’s a few videos. It was the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve had in a while!

Looks like it was ready to come home with you. Meow

Lol, you move pretty quick when things get hairy!

I like the bucket idea. I just throw my coat over them and pin em down with my knee. I've often thought that there might be a better way.

Was it in a yote set?We are still getting good bucks with antlers

@buckdeer1 It was trying to be a yote set, but since I've not (yet) caught a yote, it might be generous to call it that. I've got a few sets out. This one wasn't according to any specific set I've seen. I used the tractor to remove a packrat nest, and dumped it at the edge of the trail. After doing that, I thought it would be a point of interest for the predators to investigate. A branch happened to fall so it was extending into path. I figured as they investigate the pile, the branch would encourage foot placement in a specific place. So I put a trap in the spot and smeared some bait on the underside of the branch. I was planning on doing a dirt hole or trench set in this place, but happened into this. The set had been there a few weeks and I had freshened up the bait recently.

@Catscratch I watched youtube videos on several methods before settling on this. some use a catch pole and stretch them out away. Some use a piece of plywood as a barrier. It was my intent that the barrel would remain in place and the cat contained until I was standing up and chose to tip it. But once it pulled its leg in, the cat tipped the barrel, and it was all I could do to get a few steps away.

I found two sheds yesterday spreading clover, then later I jumped two bucks with full hardware on their heads

Worked too bad wasn't a couple weeks ago.I don't trap much but when I trap coyotes I use an old cow or deer bone and set so they will walk up and pee on it like a dog.have caught both cats and coyotes on these. Our local trapper makes a lure called predator potion and don't some real amateur utube stuff but catches alot of critters a year and probably runs one of the biggest lines in Kansas
