Rub post surprise

Went to check on a plot and do some spot spraying and saw this new growth on a rub post I put in last September. I buried about 40" of it and there is about 12' sticking out of the ground. Even though it is a hybrid poplar, I was kind of surprised to see the new growth from this size of "cutting/post"

I agree. The post looks stone dead and dry. There is one knob about 2" above ground where all the new growth is sprouting from. Don't know what I will do with it yet.

That's pretty amazing. Must be because you put it so deep in the ground.
