Renaming your hunting camp

I'm brainstorming ideas on how to rename or differently reference part of our hunting camp property. My extended family has had the "original" property since 1959, and added to via a purchase or two, a long time ago. Two November's ago, we bought the neighbors 75 acres. We still refer to it by his name. The guy was a real miserable SOB and it's time to stop referring to it by his name. It's not his anymore. Has anyone gone through this? Any pointers or suggestions? There aren't many distinguishing features, just a "beaver pond". Attached is an On X map of the property. (Ignore the dashed trail lines)

Naming a property is so hard for me! It’s like you want it to be cool, unique, relevant and representative of the land. I have a buddy with a big spread that was getting signage on all sorts of stuff for his place and he really struggled. Ended up naming it after the road and 5 years later still complains about it.
I’m jealous of cool names.

We've got named pastures. Originated from way back a long time ago. Original owners such as "The Sweet Place" or "Fox's", locations such as "lower middle pasture", or identifiers such as "the watershed pasture". I personally don't like to name places or pastures, but it helps when you have to tell someone where they can hunt/fish, or where a fence is down.

A few years ago I bought 43 acres separate from what I had owned and the grandkids started calling it the black dog farm, because the neighbors pup would come to them when they were on the farm. I immediately named the farm, The Wagon Trail Farm, (after an old wagon road that went through it) and trained the kids to use the new name. I am with you a bad name is hard to get rid of so name it soon

Call it The Hole!

It was more like a dump. Fortunately, dad found a hard-working scrap hauler that took out most of what was laying around. It looks better and will look even better when the RV and camper are gone. The house will eventually go too.

"The Junkyard." When everyone sees it after you make it look nice, they will ask you about that and a conversation will ensue... 👍

Our farm is called Mortenson after the prior guy who was on it. All of our farms are called the name of the prior owner. When my kids were real little they always just called it the jungle. They kinda outgrew that, but I still catch myself calling it the jungle occasionally.

It sounds like you're not fond of the old guy. You could incorporate that into the name.
  • Liberty Acres
  • Emancipation Woods
  • New Horizon Hunt
  • The Clean Slate
  • Redemption Ridge
  • The Liberation Lot
  • Untainted Timber
  • The Exorcised Eighty

What's the name of your original camp? You could name the new one with that name followed by the number 2....ex: RGrzzzz2

Big Franks's Camp. Frank was my grandfather. The two properties adjoin so Big Franks is now bigger, but when we describe doing something over there, we usually refer to it via the prior owners side, etc.

Beaver Pond Annex? Pond Annex? Pond Addition? Or Big Franks remains and the added land is Big Frank's Annex?

Wallis run farm.
Unless that's the old owners name.

That's the creek name
That's why I picked it.
No name for my farm but we all kinds of names for "spots". Makes it easier to say where you're going or where you are.

Outback
The 80
The 20
Jurassic
South beans
north fence
East gate
Trash can stand
The ridge

Lots of places. No farm name.

Kinda like how we name our deer. The big 10. The narrow 10. The nice 8. The goofy 8. Etc

East 40, West 80, Power Line, Rifle Range, Fingers, Crossings, Grand View, Menards, and more.

All of my plots and all of the stands have names

You will know when the "name" sticks and feels right
