That’s unfortunate. I think the politics talk here is extremely cordial and can even be informative. Unless I’m missing a bunch of deleted messages this is the most tame political talk I can think of. Hell my wife and I argue about politics worse than this!

There are politics in what, TWO threads? Three counting the photo/meme thread. Shouldn't be too hard to avoid them.

I haven't watch the "news" on Tv in decades and I'm better for it.

Here's the thing Gravel Road...this is a great forum, with great members, and Bill does a good job moderating. I do not disagree with you about the threads that are either overtly political or somehow turn political..Conspiracy Theory, Covid, Gaza, Dividend Check, Political News, etc. Some of the stuff that gets posted leaves me scratching my head in disbelief that these are guys that I share a common interest with? I've learned to just stay out of those threads. It's easy. Appreciate the forum and its members for the good it brings and things I can learn....and all political crap I just stay out of.

The threads (political, stock market, conspiracy, covid, memes, etc) would be easier to avoid if they were put under the Off Topic section. General Discussion would pertain to general discussion of habitat only.

I appreciate hearing some discussion here on some of these important issues. Most often our current media has their spin applied to the stories as they happen. Getting some insight and perspective from others is helpful in sorting out the news. There are times I stay away from a tread on such issues and other times I like to get more details. We all got choices. I think the "off topic" idea has merit.

I would suggest you look for the "acquaintances only" section on OnlyFarms.

Avoid the moisture tester scams in the classifieds if you do go on there though..... very bad.... and embarrassing...from what i have heard.

To be fair I have tried to avoid them. I can’t. I can only make it a few days before I read, which leads to posting.

I personally greatly enjoy the habitat side of this site. I actually lose sleep over food plotting.

I also greatly enjoy the politics because hunters, outdoors people, deer hunters, people that like to wander around timber, people who use chain saws and people who like to plant things feel like “my” people. I care about what they think because they are my neighbors and my brothers and sisters even if only in an online sense. I don’t care what some subway riding urbanite has to say, I want to discuss with the folks that grew up like me even if we don’t agree.

I learn something from it too. Even if I don’t agree. Discussing makes us all better. Trying to understand why someone has a different opinion makes us better.

It is odd. I mean literally the easiest thing you can do is skip over threads and read the ones you want. I have to skip over lots of threads just because my brain can only take so much input. And they’re all habitat related. LOL.

Maybe folks are browsing this forum differently than I have been. I mostly just check notifications and then go to "What's New". Sure, you can skip over the politics and other off-topic posts but the off-topic stuff can dominate the first page of What's New pretty easily. I'm sure many others that browse on here are in a similar situation as me - they likely aren't using all of the features this site provides. My big fear is that this site will have a similar fate as Fishing Buddy and other similar type forums that are no longer. Politics is much more engaging and can effectively ruin a great forum.

I'm not blowing smoke, but I really like how this forum is moderated. It seems to be fairly hands-off, which is generally a good thing. The only downside to that is that discussion can be easily dominated by a few users. Because of likes and comments, hive minds can form just like on any other social media platform.

If you were a newbie that was lurking on here and you didn't care for politics in general or a particular flavor of politics, you might not stick around. I'd much rather have a place that has less activity if it meant fewer posts like this one. Especially if there was even a slightly better chance of another Paul Knox out there who chose not to participate.

Speaking of spectrum, my ex said I was on it as was my middle child, I thought that was rather rude.

Why does Elon get all the attention & $ on the spectrum and I don't?

I really enjoy the stock threads, I lost my property (see Ex above) so I don't do habitat stuff anymore, I stay because I identify with people who do things I enjoy with hands in the dirt.

Also that Bill guy is really mean...

I've been a mod/admin on large forums and "owned" a couple small niche forums. (and no I'm not telling Bill how to run the place) One thing never allowed was "I'm leaving" threads. Wanna go? Go. No grand gestures, virtue signaling, pity parties, I'm leaving, talk me out of it, you'll miss when I'm gone, etc etc. Always zapped them right off the bat and deactivated the account before they changed their mind. lol This isn't an airport, you don't need to announce your departure. Always say, if I decide to leave a place, you'll know it by my absence. Or possibly not notice at all. I don't think I'm so important I have to inform everyone I'm leaving.
